The Department of Clinical Sciences at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for an assistant or associate professor/clinical professor of diagnostic imaging (DI). The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching and supervising veterinary students and house officers; providing advanced referral and specialty diagnostic services; and engaging in research. In addition to clinical rotation teaching, formal instruction in the DVM program and for house officers is expected. There are opportunities for pedagogical innovation and leadership associated with the current curriculum revision. This position is eligible for appointment with continuous term (tenure-equivalent).

The successful candidate will join a friendly multicultural team with 6 board-certified radiologists, 2 equine ultrasonographers, 7 residents, and 12 technicians in the Diagnostic Imaging service. The service serves the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and the Hospital for Large Animals. The Diagnostic Imaging service features one MRI suite equipped with a 3 T Siemens unit with advanced neurology and orthopedic software and a new Canon Aquilion Exceed LB providing 160 - 0.5 mm slices and modified with the Qalibra system to accommodate equine and small animal patients. The section has a fully equipped radiology and fluoroscopy suite and two C-Arms that cater to an active interventional radiology case load. The section is also equipped with two DR small animal radiology suites, one DR large animal radiology room and one nuclear medicine suite. Two ultrasound rooms are equipped with two Phillips and one Toshiba unit with several high frequency transducers. The DI section works closely with the large animal ultrasound and sports medicine service, including shared rounds and research collaborations. Large animal ultrasounds are performed by expert equine ultrasonographers using a dedicated Toshiba unit. The section manages its digital database with Carestream PACS V.12 software. The Diagnostic Imaging Section is well-recognized for its strong residency program approved by the ACVR and the ECVDI.

The successful candidate will be supported to develop an independent or collaborative research program. Excellentopportunities existto build clinical and translational research collaborations with researchers on all three campuses of Tufts University, within the New England medical community, and beyond. Clinical research is supported by the clinical research shared resource, the clinical trials office, the comparative pathology and genomics shared resource, the Animal Resources Division, and other resources such as the Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Current research strengths at Cummings School include cardiovascular health, comparative oncology, musculoskeletal pathophysiology, urology, neurosciences, and infectious disease.

The allocation of time ranges from 24 - 32 weeks for clinical activity, 5 - 14 weeks for research and scholarly activity, ~4 - 6 weeks of formal education activity, and ~3 - 4 weeks for administrative activity, depending on the rank, appointment track, and interests of the candidate. Vacation and university time off is ~5 weeks.

Completion of an American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) or European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) approved residency is required. ACVR or ECVDI board-certification is required at, or not later than two years following, the date of hire. Evidence of scholarly activity and research interests that align with strengths in the department or the school are considered an asset. The candidate must possess effective communication skills and have a demonstrated ability to work in a team.
