Job summary

Nestlé USA in Solon, Ohio is seeking a Factory Project Engineer to provide technical leadership on capital projects for the factory. You will manage project execution from charter to commissioning, coordinate with internal teams and suppliers, and ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering, 2–3 years of project management experience on projects up to several million dollars, PMP preferred, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required; other engineering disciplines may be considered.
  • 2–3 years of experience in a technical manufacturing setting, preferably in food/beverage.
  • PMP certification is preferred for project leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead preliminary project development including charter, plan, milestones, and budget milestones.
  • Direct installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned projects.
  • Manage project scope, changes, cost forecasting and monthly status reports.
  • Provide technical support to factory operations and ensure GMP/FDA compliance.
  • Support Nestlé Continuous Excellence and TPM initiatives as part of the role.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Factory Project Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership by identifying, developing and executing capital projects for the factory. This position will maintain visibility to the design process and assure adherence to all established key components and project deliverables as well as directly manage overall project execution including construction and commissioning. Additionally, this position will coordinate with the client as well as various other groups inside and outside of the organization.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Preliminary Project Development including Charter development - 45%
  • Assist in development of pre-project approval documents including project charter, project management plan, project kick start, estimate and milestone schedule creation.
  • Monitor design progress and deliverables are met in adherence to established project key components.
  • Receive design details from design team with full understanding of project deliverables to coordinate bid package development and release for construction bidding and field execution.
  • Select contractors and contracting methods based on engineering ways of working methodology.
  • Responsible for ensuring that one exhibits an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations and never implement anychange, whether directly instructed to, or under your own initiative, without first questioning its impact inrelation to product safety/quality, people safety and the environment. No compromises will be tolerated.
Project Execution support and facilitation - 30%
  • Direct and execute installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned projects.
  • Manage adherence to project scope and secure approvals for all changes in projects based on engineering ways of working methodology.
  • Manage and control project budget providing cost forecasts and cash flow projections through development of project cost and status reports on at least a monthly basis or as requested by project stakeholders.
  • Manage and maintain project milestone schedules with integrated detailed scheduling as agreed upon in the project charter.
  • Manage data collection and feedback process for projects.
  • Monitors processes for compliance with quality and GMP requirements in accordance with FDA and OSHA regulations.
  • Provide construction management and plant startup assistance as needed to ensure successful project execution
  • Evaluate, select, and issue contracts for construction firms through bidding and prequalification vetting processes.
  • Provide self-directed project management of assigned projects from end to end with minimal supervision from department manager.
Administrative / Business support- 15%
  • Monitor work output from less senior engineers on the project team as assigned by the department manager.
  • Provide technical support to Factory operations.
  • Will support and participate in Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) and Total Performance Management (TPM) as a part of their job responsibility within theBusiness Unit orassigned factory.

  • Ensure that the highest principles of ethical conduct on behalf of the community, consumer, company, and the engineering profession are adhered to and that all dealings are maintained within a competitive and fair environment and above reproach.
  • Support and encourage clear and open communication between the team members and related stakeholders, e.g. site and market management, PTC, CO Engineering, CT Packaging and the SBU.
  • Ensure that the procedures for protecting Nestlé's technological and proprietary know-how are in place and actively being implemented.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL
  • Bachelors Degree required; Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • 2 - 3 years of experience preferred; experience in a technical field in a manufacturing facility, ideally in food/beverage manufacturing strongly preferred
  • Project Management experience 2+ years, leading on projects up to $3 million.
  • PMP preferred
  • Able to manage Scope, Cost Schedule and risks on small and minor projects.

  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to complete major projects in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to schedule resources effectively so continuous improvement is not sacrificed for day-to-day results.
  • Additional consideration for those that are considered subject matter experts in a particular field of engineering(process, packaging, refrigeration, etc.)
  • Demonstrates openness to feedback and ongoing coaching from the Factory Engineering Manager to support professional development and successful job performance.
