Job summary

Miller Environmental Group in Columbus, OH is seeking a Facility Technician to support daily facility operations by assisting the Facility Operator with intake, handling, and processing of petroleum and hazardous materials. You will perform hands‑on tasks such as offloading and consolidating waste, cleaning and maintaining equipment, operating material‑handling devices.

This role requires adherence to OSHA safety procedures and company policies.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in industrial, environmental, waste handling, or related field preferred.
  • Completion of applicable safety, mechanical, hazmat, and equipment training.

Responsibilities

  • Handle, process, and consolidate petroleum and hazardous waste from vacuum trucks, drums, portable tanks, and bulk loads into appropriate storage containers or tanks.
  • Assist with offloading bulk liquids and drummed materials.
  • Operate equipment such as pressure washers, forklifts, drum handling devices, hoists, or vacuum trucks (based on training).
  • Clean and maintain filters, process tanks, waste containers, vacuum trucks, secondary containment areas, buildings, and general facility grounds.
  • Perform routine groundskeeping and seasonal tasks (e.g., landscaping, snow removal).
  • Follow all OSHA, safety, and operational procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date training, licenses, permits, and regulatory knowledge relevant to assigned tasks.
  • May perform duties outlined in the role of a field technician when support is needed.
  • Perform general site maintenance and support additional duties as assigned by the Facility Operator or management.

Location: Columbus, OH
Job Type: Full Time
Summary

The Facility Technician supports daily facility operations by assisting the Facility Operator with the intake, handling, and processing of petroleum and hazardous materials. This role performs hands‑on tasks such as offloading and consolidating waste, cleaning and maintaining facility equipment, operating material‑handling equipment, and performing general site upkeep. Technicians help ensure safe, compliant, and efficient facility operations in accordance with regulatory and company requirements. Specialized training or certifications (e.g., confined space entry) may be required.

Compensation
  • Starting pay: $20+/hour, depending on experience
  • Overtime pay after 8 hours in a day
  • 1.5x pay for Saturday work
  • 2x pay for Sunday work
  • Significant overtime opportunities are common due to emergency response and project demands

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum age: 18 years old.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license with driving record meeting company standards.
  • Ability to be on call (nights, weekends, holidays) with required response time.
  • Ability to work weekends, extended hours, and travel to remote sites as needed.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, math skills, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work outdoors, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Successful completion of post‑offer screenings, including DOT physical (if applicable), drug screen, and background check.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in industrial, environmental, waste handling, or related field preferred.
  • Completion of applicable safety, mechanical, hazmat, and equipment training.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk up and down slopes or uneven terrain, stand, lift, talk and hear. The employee is required to sit; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; bend with legs and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work is primarily performed in the field, outdoors in the heat or cold for 8 – 12 or more hours per day. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

  • To reduce exposure to harmful materials, workers often wear coveralls, gloves, shoe covers, safety glasses, or goggles. Workers may be required to wear respirators or personal air monitors. Some must wear fully enclosed protective suits for several hours at a time; these suits may be hot and uncomfortable. Must be able to wear fully encapsulated Level A PPE for extended periods (encapsulating chemical‑protective suit and a positive pressure self‑contained breathing apparatus).
