Job summary

Penn Medicine in Princeton, NJ is seeking a Facility System Technician to repair, maintain and enhance hospital facilities and components. You will work under an Engineering Manager, performing troubleshooting, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC tasks to keep patient care areas safe and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing facility issues promptly and professionally.
  • Mechanical maintenance including beds, wheelchairs, and related components.
  • Electrical maintenance: switches, lighting, safety checks.
  • Plumbing maintenance: fixtures, drains, piping.
  • HVAC maintenance: filters, unit repairs, PMs.
  • Paint and finish work as needed.

Hours: Mon-Fri 7a-3:30p, 40 hours p/ week, (weekends as needed plus there will be an on-call schedule rotating.

Summary
  • Acting under the general direction of an Engineering Manager, the Facility System Technician performs a wide variety of duties, the purpose ofwhich is to repair, maintain and/or enhance the physical operation of the facility and its components. The following list of duties would apply. Thisis not intended to be an exclusive listing.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Troubleshooting – must have the ability to evaluate a maintenance problem and take action or actions to correct said problem in a prompt, efficient and professional manner.
  • Mechanical – must have the ability to apply knowledge of and demonstrate advanced competency in general mechanical maintenance. Such duties include but are not limited to:
  • Repair and/or replacement of beds, wheel chairs, hand controls.
  • Remove and/or replace motors and their related components.
  • Repair of medium appliances and/or machinery.
  • Repair of building elements and/or furnishing.
  • Electrical – must have the ability to apply knowledge of and demonstrate advanced competency in general electrical maintenance. Such duties include but are not limited to:
  • Change, install and/or repair switches, outlets, and plugs.
  • Change and/or install lighting tubes, bulbs, and ballasts.
  • Perform electrical safety checks of hospital and patient owned equipment.
  • Install, replace or reprogram televisions and related components.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting, change, install or repair of electrical equipment, i.e. contactors, motor starters, vfd’s, timers, etc.
  • Plumbing – must have the ability to apply knowledge of and demonstrate advanced compe2tency in general plumbing maintenance. Such duties include but are not limited to:
  • Rebuild and/or replace plumbing fixtures such as flushometers, faucets, filters, etc., to include stems, washers, seats, etc.
  • Unclog drains and lines of sinks, toilets, bedpan flushers, ice machines, refrigerator units, etc., by the use of hand plunger and/or power snake equipment as needed.
  • Solder of copper pipe, both water and feed lines, as well as black pipe layout and fabrication.
  • Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning – must have the ability to apply knowledge of and demonstrate advanced competency in general HVAC/R maintenance. Such duties include but are not limited to:
  • Clean and/or replace filters as needed.
  • Adjust and make repairs to individual heater/AC units.
  • Basic diagnosis and repair of AC refrigeration units.
  • Performs maintenance as well as PMs on HVAC/R equipment.
  • Paint / Finish Work – must have the ability to apply knowledge of and demonstrate the competency in general painting and finish work. Such duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare and paint most surfaces.
  • Apply rubber cove base as well as prepare surfaces to accept.
  • Replace damaged or missing ceiling tiles and/or lay track.
  • Replace damaged or missing floor tiles and/or install flooring from start.
Credentials + Education required
  • Driver's License (Required)
  • Maintains a valid Driver’s License, CDL license a plus
  • Vocational / Technical School / Diploma Program (Preferred)
  • At least five (5) years' previous work experience in engineering/maintenance (required)

Salary Range

$23.10 - $36.83/Hourly
