Job description

SUMMARY: The Facility Sanitation Technician maintains a clean, sanitary, and food-safe manufacturing environment by cleaning and sanitizing production equipment, utensils, facility areas, and surrounding grounds. This position supports compliance with company policies, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety regulations, and workplace safety standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform cleaning and sanitation duties in accordance with established Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), food safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Operate and maintain wash area equipment, including pan washers, and manually clean utensils, tools, and other food contact surfaces as needed.
  • Disassemble and reassemble production equipment for cleaning by following established lockout/tagout procedures, protecting electrical components, and ensuring machine parts are properly tracked and returned to their designated locations.
  • Clean and sanitize production areas, food processing equipment, floors, walls, drains, and other facility surfaces.
  • Perform light to heavy-duty cleaning using specialized equipment and tools, including but not limited to floor scrubbers, pressure washers, air compressors, vacuums, and related sanitation equipment.
  • Conduct visual inspections to verify sanitation effectiveness and identify equipment or facility areas requiring additional cleaning or deep sanitation.
  • Read and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical labels, dilution instructions, and required hazard communication procedures before using sanitation chemicals.
  • Properly handle, mix, store, and use sanitation chemicals in accordance with safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility, grounds, and work areas.
  • Perform routine janitorial duties, including emptying trash receptacles, sweeping, mopping, stocking supplies, and cleaning restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
  • Maintain sanitation tools and equipment in clean, safe, and functional condition. Assist with minor maintenance and repairs of sanitation equipment as needed.
  • Complete sanitation logs and related documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Report food safety, quality, equipment, and employee safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Comply with all company food safety, quality assurance, GMP, safety, and sanitation policies, procedures, and training requirements.
  • Perform all duties safely and in a manner that does not create or pose a risk to the health or safety of employees, visitors, products, or customers.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • Represents the company brand image and shares aloha to all customers, business partners, and coworkers at all levels throughout the company.
  • Previous sanitation, janitorial, food manufacturing, or related industrial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing sanitation practices and chemical handling procedures preferred.
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions, procedures, and work orders that are in English.
  • Basic mathematical and numerical calculation skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use basic hand and air-powered tools, including wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and air guns.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak production periods.

PHYSICAL & WORKING DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, push, pull, grasp, and perform repetitive motions throughout an 8 hour shift.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, maneuver, and handle sanitation equipment, hoses, tools, and chemical containers.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights greater than 10 feet when required.
  • Must be able to wear employer-required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hair restraints, gloves, unifroms, aprons, face and eye protection, hearing protection, and other safety equipment as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor areas of a food manufacturing facility.
  • Regular exposure to wet and dry processing environments, varying hot and cold temperatures, humidity, dust, noise, odors, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Frequent work around production equipment, moving machinery, and industrial sanitation equipment.
  • Must be able to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require.
