Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks an experienced Data Center Facility Manager to lead the critical physical infrastructure operations at our Fredericksburg, VA sites.

You will manage on-site 24/7 technicians, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring highest availability while driving safety and cost-efficient operations. The role requires a Top Secret/ SCI eligible clearance and strong background in electrical and mechanical systems, including generators, switchgear, UPS, chillers, and cooling

Qualifications

Job description

Join our dynamic team and become a critical technical leader who ensures the heartbeat of our global infrastructure remains strong and resilient. In this pivotal role, you'll be the guardian of our data center operations, driving reliability and performance while optimizing operational efficiency across complex technical environments.

Data Center Facility Manager role acts as Amazon’s front line for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. You will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission‑critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment such as stand‑by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3‑phase electrical systems that include switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet‑cell batteries. Mechanical equipment includes CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers / water chemical systems, air handlers, pumps, and motors. Additional support equipment includes fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the services they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles and collaborate across AWS to deliver safety, security and capacity at the lowest possible cost.

This role may support data centers in various operational stages and may require travel of over 50 miles or commuting of less than 50 miles to active data center sites as required.

This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. The selected candidate must obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph after hiring and satisfy other security requirements.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the data center’s critical physical infrastructure, maintaining high availability and performance while ensuring quality work without impact to customers and maintaining service level agreements.
  • Manage on‑site teams of 24/7 shift technicians, sub‑contractors and vendors, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with established practices, procedures and safety protocols.
  • Drive safety and security culture and compliance within the team.
  • Hire, coach, promote and develop team members, managing performance and career development.
  • Maintain peak morale and a healthy team culture.
  • Manage the operations budget and expenditures effectively.
  • Engage in improvement projects, collaborating with support teams to drive them from conception to completion.
  • Act as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues, overseeing operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems.
  • Utilize root cause analysis and troubleshooting/problem‑solving skills.
  • Respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls.
Basic Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of work in a management position with five or more direct reports.
  • 5+ years of work in data centers with emphasis on building and equipment operation experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.

Base salary range: 129,200.00 – 193,000.00 USD annually (USA, VA, Fredericksburg).
