Job description

Position Overview

The Facility Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the shelter building. They are responsible for structured supervision of the operational staff and guidance for the contracted maintenance staff.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise operational and maintenance staff and contracted maintenance workers, including weekly structural supervisory sessions, work scheduling, timesheet approval, and time‑off requests.
  • Coordinate work assignments and evaluate paperwork and documentation such as the Security Log and Maintenance Work Order Logbooks.
  • Maintain shelter buildings in good standing and address all building violations in a timely manner.
  • Organize and lead training, development, and evaluation of maintenance staff; may perform custodial duties when necessary.
  • Participate in Callahan, RSRI, OTDA, and OCFS building inspections.
  • Maintain fire safety, including:
    • Developing a Fire Safety plan and training all staff on Fire Safety Procedures and Building Evacuation.
    • Coordinating monthly fire drills and maintaining fire drill logs.
    • Conducting periodic building inspections for fire safety hazards and ensuring all fire prevention systems (centralized fire alarm panel, sprinkler system, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers) are operational.
    • Coordinating servicing and documenting service/inspections of all fire safety equipment.
    • Providing written fire safety and prevention information to new program clients.
  • Monitor facility exterior and interior to ensure client safety and prevent damage, theft, or emergency/crisis situations.
  • Guide clients on proper upkeep of living quarters, including extermination of rodents and bugs.
  • Drive program vehicle when necessary.
  • Conduct periodic building and grounds inspections and report findings to Central Maintenance.
  • Respond to crisis and emergency situations and contact the appropriate authorities as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and training as appropriate.
  • Adhere to the on‑call system for crisis intervention and emergencies.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification and F‑80 certification.
  • Work weekends and evenings; additional shifts required as needed.
  • Perform other duties related to the program as delegated by senior leadership.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in buildings, construction, facility management, or related field with 2–5 years of experience, or high school diploma with 5–7 years of building and shelter experience.
  • Required safety director (F‑80) and/or Security Guard NYS license.

Compensation

USD $27.98 per year.
