Job summary

Ventura Foods is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to repair, maintain and optimize machinery in production and facilities. The role requires strong HVAC knowledge, interpretation of manuals and blueprints, plus basic welding skills and reliable problem-solving abilities.

Onsite, 12-hour day shifts with safety compliance including GMP, FSMA and LOTO requirements. The successful candidate will perform routine maintenance and handle emergency repairs to keep equipment running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration and related systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals and blueprints.
  • Basic welding skills and mechanical repair capability.
  • Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical and electrical repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Respond to emergency and unscheduled repairs during production.
  • Install, repair, overhaul and maintain equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose faulty components and implement repairs safely.
  • Follow GMP, safety procedures and FSMA-related rules.

Employment Type: Hourly
Shift: Days – 12 hour shifts
Work Arrangement:Onsite

Repairs and maintains machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment, and systems in both the production and facilities departments. Utilizing skill set, maintain optimal operating condition of equipment using company approved food safety practices and policies. Knowledge of HVAC, energy management, plumbing, heating, boilers, and compressed air systems. Decrease equipment downtime utilizing training and skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Uses mechanical skills including but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of equipment in accordance with established GMP and safety procedures.
  • Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production/facilities equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Installs, repairs, overhauls, modifies, and maintains electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery throughout facilities.
  • Performs required routine preventative maintenance and repair activities when not working on breakdowns.
  • Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electrical, electronic, and mechanical components throughout the facility.
  • Responsible for following all food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criteria including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls.
  • Able to perform confine space entry and obtain hazmat certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems.
  • Familiarity with ammonia refrigeration systems a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Basic welding skills for equipment repairs.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Trained on safety related programs necessary to perform the position, including LOTO and confined space entry.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical applications and principles including part identification
  • Strong work ethic related to attendance and performance of duties with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists.
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form, including technical instructions in mathematical form and blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of electronic and electrical concepts and operating safety including demonstrated ability to use hand and power tools commonly used in electrical, electronic, plumbing, heating, HVAC, and mechanical trades.
  • Must be able to pass a fit test and wear SCBA equipment.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the PSM/RMP programs for system-1 and system-2 a plus.
