The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. For over 50 years, the MDTA has provided Maryland's citizens and visitors with safe, secure, and convenient transportation facilities. Nature of Work:This is the supervisory level of maintenance work coordinating the facility activities of a Maryland Transportation Authority maintenance program. Employees prepare extensive records related to the maintenance process and make decisions affecting the maintenance program through the analysis and review of these records. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform daily inspection of assigned area to check for hazards or needed repairs;
  • Organize, schedule and supervise all phases of maintenance programs and daily maintenance activities;
  • Direct and inspect maintenance and repair work completed by maintenance technicians;
  • Ensure work zones are and lane closures are established and coordinated correctly;
  • Attend and contribute to pre-construction and progress meetings for facility projects;
  • Provide training, guidance and development to maintenance staff;
  • Delegate work assignments, approve and monitor leave and evaluate the work performance of Facility Maintenance Technicians I-IV; and
  • Respond to emergency situations at the facility including accidents and inclement weather.

This is maintenance work that is performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDTA building. On some assignments, employees may be required to supervise work located at high elevations, or in cramped quarters in buildings or underground. Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to emergency call back twenty-four (24) hours a day, as may be required to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays and may be required to be on-call.

The current vacancy is located at the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial (Bay Bridge) in Annapolis, MD. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies at other facilities throughout the MDTA.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:Five (5) years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance or skilled trades work. One (1) year of this experience must have been in a lead worker or crew leader capacity.

Notes

  • Work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Candidates must possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license Class, Number and Expiration Date on the application. The possession and maintenance of the Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), valid in the state of Maryland, is required for continued employment. This includes obtaining and maintaining a valid US DOT Medical Card (or MVA-issued waiver) every two years. Note: Employees must meet all Department of Budget and Management policies required for operation of State-owned vehicle.
