The Facility Maintenance I position performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, inspection, and preventive maintenance of City buildings, grounds, equipment, and building systems. The position is expected to take ownership of the condition and operation of assigned City facilities by remaining aware of maintenance, safety, and operational needs; identifying work that needs to be completed; and taking appropriate action without requiring specific direction for routine matters. The employee independently prioritizes and completes both assigned and self-identified work, maintains appropriate documentation, and communicates significant concerns or needs to the supervisor.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.

  • Proactively inspects and monitors City facilities, grounds, equipment, and building systems to identify maintenance, repair, safety, cleanliness, and operational needs.
  • Independently identifies, prioritizes, and completes routine maintenance and repair work without requiring specific assignments or work orders.
  • Performs scheduled daily, weekly, and monthly building maintenance, repairs, and inspections in accordance with established preventive maintenance programs.
  • Exercises sound judgment in determining which maintenance and repair needs can be addressed independently and which require supervisor notification, specialized assistance, purchasing authorization, or contractor involvement.
  • Takes responsibility for assigned and self-identified work through completion, including obtaining necessary materials, maintaining appropriate documentation, and communicating unresolved issues or barriers.
  • Maintains awareness of the overall condition of City facilities and promptly identifies and reports emerging maintenance, safety, or operational concerns before they develop into more significant problems.
  • Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment and hand tools used in building maintenance and repair.
  • Operates and maintains building valves, pumps, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Inspects, monitors, and performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting of HVAC systems and associated controls.
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and general building repairs within the scope of the position's training and qualifications.
  • Maintains shift logs, records instrument readings, and documents equipment maintenance, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Performs interior and exterior maintenance painting and related surface preparation.
  • Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work areas, equipment, and assigned facilities.
  • Follows established safety procedures, regulations, and safe work practices when operating equipment and performing maintenance activities.
