Job summary

TSMC - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited is looking for a Water Technician to operate and maintain water treatment systems. This includes troubleshooting and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma, preferably with technical training, and over 5 years' experience in industrial settings. Duties include performing maintenance procedures and working within safety regulations while operating complex water systems.

Must be able to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ.

Qualifications

  • Competency in basic mathematic skills including fractions and division.

Job description

As a part of the Facilities team, you’ll be part of something special, unleashing innovations that lead to sustainable economic growth and a smarter, better world.

Responsibilities

Responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Ultrapure Water, Process Cooling Water and Industrial Waste treatment systems & equipment. The Water Technician must accurately and reliably follow standard operating procedures for chemical reactions, perform laboratory testing, and complete correlations of process instrumentation. They will read and measure plant operating parameters to determine process changes required to maintain operations within specifications.

  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workplace
  • Starts automatic feed of solid and liquid materials through equipment units, including heating and cooling vessels, mixing tanks, ion exchange beds, and filter presses
  • Operates and controls pumping systems, pH controls, heat exchanger bulk chemical systems and filtration equipment
  • Adjusts controls to regulate feed of liquids and gases through equipment in specified timing and sequence, or starts automatic feed
  • Sets up and adjusts indicating and controlling devices, for example gas analyzers, temperature and flow controlling devices, or gauging instruments to facilitate simultaneous analysis and control of process conditions
  • Observes gauges, signals, and recording instruments, turns valves, and moves controls to regulate temperatures, pressures, and flow of steam, coolant, and chemical constituents through system to effect prescribed reaction within critical limits
  • Performs preventive maintenance procedures at specified intervals to keep process equipment clean, and performing at optimum levels
  • Performs diagnostic and troubleshooting practices to determine root cause and corrective actions needed to maintain systems operation within specifications
  • Performs emergency and corrective maintenance actions to repair damaged equipment or correct out of specification conditions
  • Draws samples of product at specified stages of operation and performs temperature, pH, gas-analyses, or other standard tests to determine if reaction process is proceeding efficiently and in conformity with plant standards
  • Observes color or consistency of product through sight glasses, and correlates observations with test results, laboratory analyses, and instrument readings to facilitate regulation of process and production of standardized output
  • Maintains log of gauge readings, shift throughput, and equipment malfunctions
  • Patrols area to inspect equipment for leaks and hazards and to record tank levels and gauge readings
  • Ensures processing conditions and process output are within regulatory limits. Responsible for correcting conditions and alerting management of discrepancies
  • Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of equipment systems are met, and equipment operations, repairs, modifications, and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements
  • Additional duties based on business needs, including ERT
  • If hired for this position, you may be required to participate in and perform Emergency Response Team (ERT) duties as an essential part of the role. These duties may include responding to F21 incidents, such as medical emergencies, chemical spills, fire response, or addressing any other disruptions to business operations. If you are selected by your manager to become a part of ERT, participation is mandatory and additional compensation will be provided for performing these critical responsibilities in the form of a monthly premium.
Knowledge and Personal Skills

The Water Technician must have knowledge of industry standards, codes and regulations, and the ability to apply to maintenance operation of site Water systems.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed for business purposes, or to be called-in to work in the event of emergency or business needs.
  • Contributes recommendations and suggestion for work method improvements, safety, materials, and tools.
  • The Water Technician must have an appropriate focus on personal, process, and work force safety.
  • Attributes should include honesty, trustworthiness, respect for others, flexibility, and sound workplace ethics
Experience, Education, and Training
  • High School graduation or GED is required
  • Technical College or Trade Program is preferred
  • Experience with laboratory or analytical equipment is preferred
  • Previous knowledge in operation of industrial and/or commercial processing equipment
  • 5+ years’ experience with process piping systems, working in an industrial setting are highly preferred
  • Competency in basic mathematic skills including fractions, addition, subtraction, division
Physical Requirements

The Water Technician may spend extended hours working inside and outside in all weather conditions, and in awkward body positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.

  • Required to regularly lift up to 50 lbs and to adjust heavy objects.
  • Foreseeably the position will come in contact with sharp, hot, and cold equipment, and parts.
  • Be medically qualified to wear a personal respirator.
  • Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with industrial chemical operations, exposure to the sounds associated with powered tools and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders, and work at elevation from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, roofs, or platforms
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
