Job summary

United Airlines is hiring a Facilities Utility Specialist to join the Facilities Maintenance Operations team. You will help maintain the fleet’s facilities, assist technicians, and support baggage and tools logistics.

The role requires outdoor work, shift flexibility, and adherence to the IBT collective bargaining agreement. The starting rate is $22.11 per hour, with weekend and holiday shifts and union dues as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills in a demanding service environment.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24/7 operation.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and check tools, test equipment and commodities in warehousing and operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including servicing, cleaning and transporting equipment.
  • Assist with baggage system operations and related support tasks.
  • Surface treat facility parts and perform general shop housekeeping.
  • Support parts transportation, inventory and accounting for tasks.
  • Assist Technicians and work across rotating shifts as needed.
  • Work outdoors in all weather, including weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Facilities Utility Specialist you will work in a fast-paced Facilities Maintenance Operations department. The Facilities Utility Specialist plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers. The Facilities Utility Specialist performs work in accordance with guidelines established in the collective bargaining agreement.

  • Identifying and checking tools, test equipment and certain commodities in and out of the warehouse, as well as the service, cleaning, inventory storage and accounting of tools, test equipment and commodities used in the daily operation
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks of a general nature, such as servicing, cleaning and transporting equipment as well as cutting, sizing, and forming materials
  • Assisting in the operation of the airline baggage system including and not limited to monitoring, managing and clearing of baggage related jams and operational support of the baggage handling systems
  • Surface treatment of facility component parts with chemicals and sandblasting equipment
  • General shop and housekeeping responsibilities as related to storage, break, and work area cleanliness
  • Supporting the department through the transportation, inventory and accounting of parts and components needed to complete tasks
  • Assisting Technicians with work as requested
  • Facilities Utility Specialist must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority
  • Facilities Utility Specialist are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)
  • Salary increases will be coordinated according to the current IBT/United contract
  • Shift differentials are paid for working an afternoon or evening shift respectively as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement
  • New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment
  • There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues
Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or education equivalent or a certification from an accredited trade school
  • Must possess valid state issued Driver’s License
  • Strong social skills and the ability to function as a team member in a demanding service environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work any shift assigned (nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed) within 24/7 operation
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, and/or walk for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperatures and weather condition
  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to high noise levels
  • Moderate lifting

The starting rate for this role is $22.11.
