Job summary

Carter Machinery in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician for the 1st shift. You will maintain and repair facilities to keep utilities and equipment in top condition, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry tasks.

A strong mechanical background, good communication, and safety focus are essential. Minimum four years of related experience is required; a professional electrician's license or HVAC certification is a plus.

Qualifications

• High mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
• Good communication and ability to interact with supervisors to relay issues.
• Organized, detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level service and maintenance to assigned facilities to keep utilities and equipment in optimum condition.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry systems.
• Maintain safe work practices and effective communication with supervisor.
• Work additional hours and operate heavy machinery when required.

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing the highest level of service and maintenance to assigned facilities to keep utilities and equipment in optimum operating condition.

Requirements for the Facilities Maintenance Technician position include

• High mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and perform mechanical repairs of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry
• Requires good communication skills. Must be able to positively interact with supervisor and understand problems and concerns relating to a repair
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Must have an excellent driving record
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Must be able to work additional hours to meet demands
• Must be able to occasionally operate heavy machinery in a safe manner

Seeking Candidates with

• Minimum four years related experience, required
• Professional electrician's license and HVAC trade certification, a plus
• High school diploma or GED, required

• Frequently sit for extended periods of time
• Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds
