Job summary

Thurston County is seeking a Facilities Technician II to join the Facilities Services Team. You will perform hands-on maintenance and repair of building systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and security systems, with emphasis on safety and customer service. Schedule is Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Travel to county properties is daily; essential personnel may work during non-business

• Three years of building equipment/systems maintenance and operation experience, including one year with controls; two years with major mechanical equipment and electrical repairs.

The salary for this position is $4,902 - $6,521 monthly.

Thurston County Central Services is recruiting for a Facilities Technician II to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Facilities Services Team.The successful candidate will performhands-on experience maintaining and repairing a variety of building systems such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, electronic controls, fire alarms, security systems, lighting, irrigation, or related systems. The preferred candidate will have specialized training and experience in at least one functional area and will have experience meeting with customers, vendors, writing technical reports, evaluating code or other safety concerns, and reading blueprints or other building drawings.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Identifying, troubleshooting, testing, and diagnosing problems with building systems and components.
• Setting and adjusting parameters within computer software systems which may control fire monitoring, DDC, or security systems.
• Performing preventive maintenance, periodic confidence testing, and repairs on major pieces of equipment as assigned through an electronic work order program.
• May direct the work of individuals and crews performing a variety of facilities projects and participating as a working crew member for more significant projects.

Essential Personnel: This position is considered an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs, such as working on snow days or staying late due to power outages.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work Environment:
  • Work is typically performed in a variety of locations including high-security areas such as detention facilities, on rooftops, and in confined areas.
  • Work requires use of equipment including hand and power tools and ladders.
  • Technicians regularly lift 75 pounds and are required to bend, stoop, crouch, push, pull and reach above shoulders in the performance of duties.
  • This position could be exposed to noisy machinery and alarms, dust, liquid, epoxy chemicals, smoke, noxious odors, fumes and solvents.
• Schedule:Monday – Thursday, 6:00a.m. – 5:00p.m., with a one-hour lunch break.
• Travel Requirements: Daily driving to county properties and various vendor locations.
• Customer Interaction: Daily interactions via phone or in-person with Thurston County staff and vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED.Completion of vocational training program(s) in a building maintenance field is preferred and may be substituted for one year of work experience.
• Three years experience in building equipment/systems maintenance and operation which includes one year of hands‑on experience in controls, two years of hands‑on experience with major mechanical equipment and electrical repairs.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical equipment and controls.
• Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools and equipment used in building and mechanical maintenance and repair work, and in the maintenance of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical systems.
• Knowledge of the codes and regulations applicable to the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
• Current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
• Must pass background security check.

DESIRED SKILLS:

• Proficient in data entry and use of software including email, maintenance management information systems, and online timekeeping.
