Job Summary: We are looking for a Lab Facilities and Equipment Specialist to join our growing company! The ideal candidate will have an excellent set of hands‑on skills, a safety‑driven mindset with strong background in laboratory equipment maintenance, standard lab equipment techniques and protocols, and the ability to work effectively in highly multi‑disciplinary research areas. Specifically in this role, the candidate will be supporting Alsym Energy’s R&D team working on the next generation of Battery technology. This position will work to support our research team with responsive delivery of equipment maintenance, workspace management, and responsive execution of troubleshooting. Our goal is a workplace built to optimize conditions for productivity and employee well‑being based on efficiency, safety, and human health.

Industry Background: Alsym Energy, Inc is a leading innovator in the rapidly changing field of battery energy storage. It is essential for the world to succeed in the transition to sustainable energy and batteries are at the very core of the solution. In fact, the IEA predicts that 60% of CO2 emission reductions in 2030 will be directly related to batteries. This mission is what drives us every day. Over the last few years, supply‑chain constraints and significant safety incidents arising from lithium‑ion batteries have reduced confidence in the suitability of the technology. Alsym’s advanced sodium ion technology enables the highest performing non‑lithium‑ion battery in the industry, based on its safe, sustainable and long‑lasting energy storage solution.

Key Qualifications:
  • Prior experience maintaining laboratory equipment including fume hoods, gloveboxes, and gas cylinders.
  • Familiarity with safe chemical handling, materials safety, solvent handling, waste management, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with chemical hygiene, mechanical assembly, and safety best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain computer‑based asset management and preventative maintenance programs.
  • 5 years’ experience, at least 1 year in a chemistry lab.
  • Working knowledge of basic lab and manufacturing equipment (pumps, motors, blowers, etc)
  • Working knowledge of building systems and infrastructure
  • Experience working in a growing R&D and manufacturing environment
  • Ability to manage through fast moving, start‑up challenges with ease and comfort
  • Proficiency in installing IT equipment, monitors, desk set‑up etc.
  • Formal training or certification (CFM, CEM) a plus
  • Act as the primary contact for lab equipment maintenance activities
  • Act as the primary contact for facilities service calls
  • Work closely with scientists and engineers to install specialty equipment and perform preventative maintenance and calibration needs.
  • Support lab equipment transfers or relocation
  • Maintain accurate and detailed maintenance records
  • Hands‑on maintenance of gloveboxes, compressed gas and vacuum lines, industrial equipment (mixers, air dryers, roll‑to‑roll coaters)
  • Maintain safe, clean, and orderly laboratory conditions to improve productivity for other lab users
  • Support management of consumable inventories, solid and hazardous waste collection sites, and shipping/receiving of chemicals.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement improvements
