Job summary

Consumer Reports in Yonkers, NY is seeking a skilled Mechanic to maintain our facility and support 63 labs testing operations. You will perform routine maintenance, repair equipment and building systems, respond to on‑demand staff requests, and assist with safety inspections to keep our headquarters running smoothly.

You will also handle inventory management, support emergency evacuations when needed, and contribute to a clean, safe work environment.

Qualifications

CR’s consumer product and service testing center, in Yonkers, New York, is the largest nonprofit educational and consumer product testing center in the world. It is here where, in any one of our 63 labs, we test, rate, and review 10,000+ products and services.

As a Mechanic on the team, you will report to the Director of Facilities to focus on routine maintenance, responding to occasional off-hour emergency calls and ensuring safety regulations are met and all equipment is in good working order.

This is an on-site position located in Yonkers, New York. This position is not eligible for sponsorship or relocation assistance.

How You'll Make An Impact

Our dedicated facility team is instrumental in maintaining and repairing our organization’s headquarters so our testing and research experts can provide consumers with the information they need to make informed decisions. In this position, you will be responsible for:

Physical requirements include t hose associated with trade work including working in an office environment, utilization of safe work practices, use of material handling equipment, ladders, lifts and tools & equipment typical for working on systems, ability to lift or move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions typical to the region and the ability to operate large equipment including that used for grounds upkeep and snow removal.

FAIR PAY AND A JUST WORKPLACE

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation.The target salary range for this position is $69,074.30 - $80K. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. We have three locations: Yonkers, NY, Washington, DC and Colchester, CT.
