Job summary

Cook Medical in Bloomington, IN, seeks a Facilities Specialist to support planning, commissioning, operation, and continuous optimization of the Building Management System (BMS) for safe, reliable, and energy-efficient facility operations.

Collaborate with Facilities, Operations, IT, Engineering, and external vendors to design, configure, integrate, and maintain building automation, HVAC, and energy management systems across the enterprise.

Qualifications

  • AAS in Engineering Technology, Building Automation Systems, Electrical Engineering Technology, IT, Network Technology/Network Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial, manufacturing, or facility maintenance experience.
  • Experience reading blueprints, schematics, and process control diagrams.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC and control systems in industrial environments.
  • Proficient in English written and spoken communication.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD to develop/modify facility or system drawings.
  • Familiarity with GMP, FDA, ISO regulations and OSHA standards.

  • Design, integrate, and implement advanced building control systems using industry-standard platforms and protocols (e.g., Allen‑Bradley, Modbus, DeviceNet, BACnet, Niagara 4).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project and organizational goals.

Overview

The Facilities Specialist is responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, operation, maintenance, commissioning, and continuous optimization of the Building Management System (BMS) to support safe, reliable, and energy‑efficient facility operations. This role serves as the liaison between Facilities, Operations, IT, Engineering, and external vendors to ensure building automation, HVAC, and energy management systems are properly designed, configured, integrated, and performing to operational and business requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Write and modify facility/system documents and procedures.
  • Ensure new or modified asset information is properly transferred into maintenance and calibration systems.
  • Assist in planning, documenting, commissioning, and start-up of new and modified facilities and system installs/upgrades.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize BMS-controlled systems including HVAC, central utility systems, lighting controls, and ancillary equipment.
  • Maintain and update BMS graphics, logic, sequences of operation, setpoints, alarms, and schedules.
  • Design, integrate, and implement advanced building control systems using industry-standard platforms and protocols, including Allen‑Bradley (Rockwell Automation), Modbus, DeviceNet, BACnet, and Niagara 4.
  • Support the administration of the BMS, which monitors critical building utilities.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) interfaces and related control system equipment.
  • Assist in performing system diagnostics, trend analysis, alarm management, and root cause investigations to resolve operational issues.
  • Assist in transforming traditional systems into highly efficient automated environments.
  • Assist in developing automation strategies that drive sustainability and cost savings.
  • Collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams to achieve project and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Engineering Technology, Building Automation Systems, Electrical Engineering Technology, Information Technology (IT), Network Technology/Network Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial, manufacturing, or facility maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, or automated systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects with a high level of detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, electrical schematics, manuals, process control diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting of PLC and other control systems in an industrial environment.
  • Experience working with Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) preferred.
  • Experience working independently and with limited supervision.
  • Must be proficient in English oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have good working knowledge of AutoCAD to develop/modify facility or system drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Knowledge of GMP, FDA, and ISO regulations.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards, fire safety, hazardous materials handling, and emergency response protocols.
  • This role requires foundational literacy in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data concepts, including the ability to explain these concepts simply, identify appropriate uses of AI in daily work, responsibly use approved AI tools for low-risk tasks, and consistently apply Cook Medical’s data privacy and responsible AI guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  • Utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers and equipment.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% as necessary to other facilities.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, and work in various physical positions for extended periods.
  • Regularly lifting with maximum exertion during shift.
  • Work may occur in hot, cold, noisy, or dusty environments.
  • May require working at heights, in confined spaces, or around rotating equipment.
  • Must be able to use appropriate PPE including safety glasses, lab coat, gloves and appropriate shoes as required by the task and environment.
  • May require occasional overtime, weekend work, or on‑call support depending on operational needs.
