Precision Medicine Group in Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a Facilities Specialist to maintain, repair, qualify, validate, and monitor facility equipment, laboratory instrumentation, and support systems, including HVAC and backup power.

You will coordinate preventive maintenance, manage calibration records, lead QA/QC activities, and serve as primary liaison with vendors while supporting EHS initiatives and safety programs across the site.

Position Summary:

The Facilities Specialist is responsible for the maintenance, repair, qualification, validation, and monitoring of the facility equipment, laboratory instrumentation, and facility support systems, including HVAC, electrical, backup power generation, and monitoring systems. This position ensures equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and safety of the facility. The role serves as a key liaison with vendors, supports Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives, participates in emergency response activities, and provides ownership / main point of contact for facilities and equipment maintenance programs.

Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:

General Duties:

• Track and update database tasks as required, including scheduled and unscheduled tasks performed or managed.
• Communicate with Site leadership on a regular basis for all safety, facilities and equipment related priority items.
• Escalate issues based on risk and urgency.

Equipment Requirements:

• Perform, coordinate, and oversee maintenance, calibration, qualification, validation, and repair activities for repository refrigeration equipment, laboratory instrumentation, and associated support equipment.
• Schedule preventive maintenance and maintain repair histories, calibration records, and validation documentation within the electronic asset management system.
• Lead or support qualification and validation activities, including IQ/OQ/PQ protocols for new equipment.
• Investigate equipment failures, determine root causes, support corrective actions, and participate in NCE/CAPA investigations when required.
• Review maintenance performance, equipment utilization, downtime trends, and other key metrics and provide reports to management.
• Create, revise, and maintain SOPs and related documentation for equipment operation, calibration, maintenance, and qualification activities.
• Provide technical support, including facilities and equipment expertise to laboratory and operational departments

Facility Operations:

• Perform, coordinate, and oversee inspection, maintenance, and repair activities for facility systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, generators, backup power systems, plumbing, roofing, security systems, and central monitoring systems.
• Oversee, maintain, and troubleshoot low-voltage monitoring and alarm systems supporting facility operations.
• Act as the primary point of contact for facility alarms, equipment monitoring, and troubleshooting activities.
• Evaluate facility and infrastructure issues and coordinate corrective actions with internal teams and external service providers.
• Assist in planning, design, renovation, and build-out activities for existing and future facilities.

Vendor Management & Procurement:

• Coordinate vendor maintenance services, troubleshooting activities, quotations, work orders, site access, and service documentation to ensure work is completed safely and effectively.
• Support procurement, installation, and commissioning of new laboratory and facility equipment, supplies, PPE, and related resources.
• Collaborate with site leadership and laboratory personnel to support equipment lifecycle management and operational requirements.

Safety, Compliance & Emergency Response:

• Support facility safety programs and maintain compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
• Communicate regularly with EHS Global Team
• Perform routine inspections of safety equipment, including eyewash stations, safety showers, fire extinguishers, and related systems.
• Serve as an active member of the Safety Committee and support safety training, drills, inspections, and awareness activities.
• Support facility, client, regulatory, and quality audit activities as requested.
• Participate in the facility emergency response and on-call rotation program, including responding to equipment, facility, and business continuity events within established response times.
• Support EHS related activities.

Miscellaneous:

• Remain current on emerging facility technologies, monitoring systems, and industry best practices.
• Provides metrics to leadership concerning equipment scheduling, downtime, errors, and other key performance indicators as assigned.
• Participate in specimen relocation activities as required.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

• Bachelors degree or equivalent
• 2 years plus related experience in mechanical or maintenance, including experience with back-up power supply and switch gear equipment

Other Required:

• Must possess a valid driver’s license allowing you to drive in the state(s) you drive in
• Able to travel, including overnight stays
• Must have and maintain a safe driving record and provide proof of such on an annual basis.
• Must be able to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English language
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred:

• Formal training in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR)
• Concentration in Engineering

This compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Precision, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, health insurance, retirement savings benefits, life insurance and disability benefits, parental leave, and paid time off for sick leave and vacation, among other benefits.
