Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates seeks a Mechanical Engineer to provide on-site support for NASA AFRC FEMO at Edwards AFB, CA. The role focuses on modifying, maintaining, and operating facilities and infrastructure while complying with applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Draft/review statements of work, PWSs, PERs, specs, costs, schedules.
  • Perform on-site construction inspections for QA support.
  • Review designs for technical accuracy and contract compliance.
  • Update AutoCAD/Revit BIM models and data in Maximo CMMS.
  • Support energy and water conservation analyses and reporting.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide status briefings.
  • Ensure compliance with IBC, NFPA, NASA NPRs and related specs.
  • Prepare construction specifications in SpecsIntact or similar tools.
  • Create updated facility maps with ArcGIS showing utilities and sites.
  • Conduct design reviews in Bluebeam for better coordination.

Job Description

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) is seeking to hire a Mechanical Engineer to provide onsite support for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) Facilities Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations (FEMO) contract located on Edwards Air Force Base, CA. The duties of the FEMO is to modify, maintain, and operate AFRC facilities and infrastructure in support of changing mission requirements, while minimizing adverse impact to research operations and employees; complying with Federal, State, local, and NASA regulations and requirements. The qualified candidate should have expertise with ARC GIS and Maximo CMMS or similar systems. Candidates should possess a degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on facilities construction and maintenance.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $114,816 AnnualSalary, commensurate with experience and qualifications. US citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in drafting and review statements of work (SoW), performance work statements (PWSs), Preliminary Engineering Reports (PER), specifications, cost estimates, schedules.
  • Provide Quality Assurance (QA) support to project managers by conducting on‑site construction inspections.
  • Performing timely reviews of design drawings and specifications to verify technical accuracy and contract compliance.
  • Update configuration-controlled drawings and BIM models in AutoCAD/Revit.
  • Maintain Maximo CMMS data including PMs, assets, and work orders.
  • Support energy/water conservation analysis and reporting.
  • Participate in project meetings and prepare status briefings.
  • Ensure compliance with IBC, NFPA, UFGS, OSHA, NASA NPRs or similar specifications.
  • Develop project‑specific construction specifications in SpecsIntact or similar tools.
  • Use ArcGIS to create updated facility maps showing utilities, space use, and project sites, etc.
  • Conduct design reviews in Bluebeam to improve coordination and stakeholder communication.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum 1 year of construction industry quality assurance and inspection experience.
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
  • Must be multi-task oriented, and capable of prioritizing project schedules to perform inspections.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work with a team of technicians and engineers to support best practices to accomplish specific mission requirements.
  • Must understand mechanical, structural and electrical drawings and schematics
  • Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills (both oral and written)particularlywith other technicians and engineers.
  • Need to work well with, co-operate with, and support clients, supervisors, and co-workers
  • Able to work in a dynamic and multi-task environment by prioritizing and coordinating task/project schedules.
  • Follow safe practices in OSHA standards.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • HVAC System maintenance

  • VDC - Virtual Design & Construction
  • Experience supporting NASA, DOD, or federal facility programs.
  • OSHA 10- & 30-Hour Certification preferred.
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revue.
  • Strong knowledge of IBC, NFPA, UFGS, and OSHA.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Maximo CMMS, and ArcGIS.
  • Ability to obtain CQM, IBC/NFPA training, and lift/confined-space certifications.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to inspect construction sites, climb ladders, and enter confined spaces.
  • Ability to work indoors/outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
  • Able to work extended hours at a computer or desk (considerations: sitting, eye strain, and hand strain)
Work Schedule
  • Must work onsite core hours of 8:00 AM–3:0 PM.
  • This position may require working weekends or non-standard shifts. Flexibility is required based upon workload.
