Job summary

The YMCA of Honolulu is seeking a Projects, Maintenance & Nursery Specialist for seasonal work from November 15, 2026 to May 15, 2027. The role focuses on maintenance, groundskeeping, and supporting our native plant nursery.

The position reports to the Director of Facilities and emphasizes safety throughout camp facilities. You will perform inspections, mowing, planting, and nursery care, assist with deliveries, and help with camp improvements.

Qualifications

  • Experience in general maintenance, landscaping, or horticulture.
  • Ability to perform physical outdoor labor.
  • Knowledge of native plants is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently or with others.
  • Compliance with YMCA child safety policies and background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and basic repairs on buildings, cabins, and camp infrastructure.
  • Mow lawns, trim bushes, clear brush, and remove debris regularly.
  • Maintain and care for native plant nursery, including planting, watering, and propagation.
  • Assist with unloading deliveries and organizing storage areas.
  • Conduct routine safety checks of facilities, equipment, and public spaces.
  • Ensure tools and hazardous materials are properly stored and labeled.
  • Support projects related to camp improvements, maintenance, and landscaping.
  • Follow YMCA policies, safety procedures, and standards for high-risk activities.

SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT: November 15th, 2026 - May 15th 2027
PAY RATE: $400 / Weekly

This role focuses on maintenance, groundskeeping, and supporting our native plant nursery. The position ensures camp facilities, infrastructure, and outdoor spaces are safe, functional, and thriving. The Projects, Maintenance & Nursery Specialist reports to the Director of Facilities.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Perform routine inspections and basic repairs on buildings, cabins, and camp infrastructure.
  • Mow lawns, trim bushes, clear brush, and remove debris regularly.
  • Maintain and care for native plant nursery, including planting, watering, and propagation.
  • Assist with unloading deliveries and organizing storage areas.
  • Conduct routine safety checks of facilities, equipment, and public spaces.
  • Ensure tools and hazardous materials are properly stored and labeled.
  • Support projects related to camp improvements, maintenance, and landscaping.
