Job Summary

Jefferson County is seeking qualified Facilities Managers to work in the General Services department. Facilities Managers plan, direct, and coordinate the maintenance of various facilities. They supervise and coordinate the managers and staff responsible for the inspections, maintenance, and repairs for these facilities. Facilities Managers oversee, coordinate, and engage with multiple departments and organizations about event planning, management, supplies, safety, and the maintenance of equipment. Facilities Managers are responsible for monitoring inventories and preparing and managing the department budget. Work may be reviewed for fulfillment of program objectives and for compliance with department policy and practice.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Driver's license.
  • Experience developing and monitoring operating and capital budgets for commercial or industrial facilities.
  • Experience planning, coordinating and directing the activities of multiple personnel in the crafts or maintenance field, performing construction or maintenance of commercial or industrial facilities.
  • Experience using work order/asset management software to monitor and track the resources of a commercial or industrial facility (e.g., personnel and equipment).
Targeted Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school in engineering or related area.
  • Experience managing the operation, maintenance, and repair of multiple commercial building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life-safety systems.
  • Experience managing facility-related contracts and vendors, including developing scopes of work, reviewing proposals, monitoring contractor performance, and approving or reconciling costs.
  • Experience operating Building Automation System (BAS) software (e.g., Metasys, Desigo, Tracer).
Typical Job Duties
  • Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
  • Administers and manages the solicitation and hiring of contractors, and the status of contracted projects to track project status and address any changes that may be necessary.
  • Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
  • Initiates, plans, executes, and monitors work involved in the completion of projects to ensure efficient delivery of service and products.
  • Oversees adherence to safety codes and preparedness for and conformance of staff regarding safety to ensure a safe workplace.
  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
  • Conducts training to provide knowledge and understanding of work processes to ensure compliance with procedures and standards.
Physical Demands

Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

Work is performed both within employer-owned facilities such as offices, workshops, warehouses, or stations. Work involves use of various hand tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches. Work involves use of office and communication equipment such as computers, copiers, phones, and two-way radios. Work may require exposure to live electrical circuits, volatile gasses, and extreme hot or cold temperatures.
