Job description

Spacecraft represent the most pressing unmet need across the entire aerospace industry. As more launch vehicles come online and the cost to orbit decreases, more companies launching payloads to space continue to emerge.

For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles.

Apex manufactures these satellite buses at scale using a combination of software, vertical integration, and hardware that is designed for manufacturing. Our spacecraft enable the future of society: ranging from earth observation to communications and more.

We’d love for you to join us on our mission of providing humankind access to the galaxy beyond our planet.

About The Role

As Apex continues to expand its satellite manufacturing footprint, we are seeking a Facilities Manager to lead the day‑to‑day operations, maintenance programs, vendors, and team that keep our engineering, laboratory, and manufacturing environments safe, compliant, and efficient. This role owns the facilities team and programs, enabling Facilities leadership to focus on strategy, capital planning, and risk management.

The ideal candidate is a hybrid leader who thrives in fast‑paced, high‑growth manufacturing environments, able to build and run programs and a team while staying close enough to the work to step in when it matters.

Responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management (Approximately 20%)
  • Hire, develop, schedule, and manage the facilities team (Leads, Technicians, Associates / Specialists, and in‑house janitorial).
  • Set priorities, assign work, and hold the team and vendors accountable to quality, safety, and timeliness standards.
  • Coach and develop staff; conduct performance reviews and manage performance issues through to resolution.
  • Build cross‑training and coverage plans so critical functions are sustained across shifts and sites.
  • Foster a culture of safety, service, and continuous improvement.
Facilities Operations & Maintenance Programs (Approximately 25%)
  • Own preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, compressed air, and building systems.
  • Ensure rapid response and resolution for facilities issues impacting production, safety, or employee experience.
  • Maintain critical spares and consumables to address common and anticipated needs and minimize downtime.
  • Direct maintenance of light‑industrial, lab, and production‑support equipment in coordination with Manufacturing and Engineering.
  • Step in hands‑on to troubleshoot or execute during escalations, emergencies, or peak demand.
Vendor, Contract & Budget Management (Approximately 20%)
  • Manage on‑site vendors and service providers (janitorial, security, HVAC, fire safety, waste, landscaping, utilities, etc.).
  • Track vendor performance against SLAs; drive service quality, cost control, and accountability.
  • Lead contract renewals, RFPs, and vendor onboarding; negotiate scope and pricing in coordination with leadership.
  • Prepare and manage the facilities operating budget and forecasts; monitor expenditures, validate invoices, and maintain financial controls.
  • Identify and drive cost‑reduction and value‑engineering opportunities across services, repairs, and utilities.
Projects, Build‑Outs & Space Planning (Approximately 20%)
  • Lead site‑level facilities projects from intake through close‑out: scope, budget, schedule, contractor coordination, and documentation.
  • Support build‑outs, renovations, equipment installs, and infrastructure upgrades; coordinate with senior leadership on larger capital initiatives.
  • Lead space planning: capacity assessments, layouts, equipment placement, moves, parking, and access control.
  • Coordinate project timing to minimize disruption to manufacturing and site operations; give advance notice and full reporting on impacts.
  • Track project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure on‑time, on‑budget execution.
Compliance, Safety & Risk (Approximately 10%)
  • Own facilities compliance with building codes, lease requirements, and permitted‑use conditions (HVAC servicing, fire inspections, etc.).
  • Partner with EHS to execute OSHA and safety programs: inspections, corrective actions, lock‑out/tag‑out, and incident follow‑up.
  • Maintain readiness for audits, inspections, and insurance requirements through accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Lead facilities response to emergencies, outages, and business‑continuity events; maintain and exercise response plans.
  • Maintain HAZMAT, waste, and environmental compliance as applicable to the sites.
Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement (Approximately 5%)
  • Maintain facilities documentation, drawings, asset records, logs, and compliance records; keep an accurate site plan.
  • Use a CMMS / IWMS to manage assets, work orders, and preventive‑maintenance schedules.
  • Track and report on work orders, costs, uptime, and service performance; use data to inform decisions and priorities.
  • Identify and drive improvements in efficiency, reliability, sustainability, and employee experience across facilities.
Required Qualifications
  • All applicants must be a U.S. Person due to export control requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive facilities management experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or high‑tech environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing people, vendors, budgets, and facilities programs in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM), FMP, or equivalent credential.
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasts, and vendor contracts with financial controls.
  • Experience generating operational dashboards or reporting metrics.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to work across office, laboratory, warehouse, and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to walk active production floors and navigate construction areas safely.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, and reach, including in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Ability to climb and work safely from ladders, aerial lifts, and rooftops, and at elevated heights.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and facilities equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds occasionally.
