Job summary

Crothall Healthcare, a Compass Group USA company, seeks a Director of Engineering to lead Plant Operations & Maintenance at Mount Sinai Main Campus in New York. The role plans, prioritizes, and controls engineering and construction activities to meet hospital standards.

You will oversee budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, coordinate with contractors, and drive energy savings initiatives while leading a team in a healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required.
• 2 years at Director level OR 5 years at Director level in Engineering, Maintenance or Construction in healthcare.
• Ability to read, comprehend and transmit complex instructions orally and in writing.
• Previous Facilities Management experience in an acute care hospital required.
• Proficiency in CMMS, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• CHFM certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare building mechanical, electrical and structural systems; NFPA, TJC, CMS, DNV, EPA, OSHA codes.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and evaluates existing programs, services, policies and procedures.
• Meets with hospital client and staff to plan, prioritize, coordinate and communicate programs and policies.
• Supervises work flow and ensures quality aligned with facility standards.
• Prepares and manages departmental budgets, including energy savings programs.
• Ensures compliance with Joint Commission, State Health Department, EPA, DEP, ADA, UST and other regulations.
• Supervises performance evaluations for staff.
• Guides staff on facility personnel and employee relations programs.
• Plans, coordinates and supervises construction and development of physical facilities.
• Reviews and approves plans for construction.
• Liaises with contractors, architects, engineers, and suppliers.

Education

Job Summary

Working as a Healthcare Facilities Management Director, you lead the overall management of the Plant Operations & Maintenance Departments within our hospital campus environment. You plan, prioritize, and control functions and activities under the scope of the contract.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and evaluates existing programs, services, policies and procedures
• Meets with hospital client and staff as needed to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and/or communicate programs and policies
• Supervises flow and quality of work to assure completion of workload and consistency to facility’s standards
• Prepares and leads departmental budgets, including utilities energy savings program
• Handles and ensures compliance with the Joint Commission, State Health Department, EPA, DEP, ADA, UST, and other regulatory business appointments
• Supervises work performance and prepares and/or reviews performance evaluations for assigned personnel
• Guides employees of salient features of facility’s personnel and employee relations programs and answers any questions
• Plans, coordinates, and supervises construction and development of physical facilities
• Reviews, evaluates, and recommends approval of plans for construction
• Serves as liaison with contractors, architects, engineers, and material and equipment suppliers

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred or a related field
• 2 years responsibility at a Director Level OR 5 years responsibility at a Director Level in areas of Engineering, Maintenance and Construction in a health care institution with related continuous education courses
• The ability to read, comprehend and transmit complicated detailed instructions orally and in writing
• Previous Facilities Management experience in an acute care hospital required
• Should have proficiency in CMMS Systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Certified Health Care Facility Manager (CHFM) preferred
• Ability to meet established goals and objectives
• Possess a strong knowledge and understanding of healthcare building mechanical, structural, and electrical systems
• Must have knowledge and expertise in NFPA, TJC, CMS, DNV, EPA, and OSHA codes and regulations and the ability to interpret and implement
