Job summary

Valmont Industries in Brenham, TX is seeking a Maintenance Technician to install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical equipment on a 4th shift. Starting pay is $24.47 per hour with step increases at 90 days, 1 year and 2 years, plus eligible discretionary bonus.

The role requires preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and safe operation of forklifts, cranes, and related equipment. Work is performed in a fast-paced plant setting with exposure to mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical

Qualifications

• Must be able to use tire changing equipment and tools.
• Must be able to trouble shoot DC voltages.
• Read and write clearly.
• Adhere to safety practices including Lockout/Tag Out procedures.
• Basic shop math is required.
• Must obtain forklift and crane equipment certification from a Valmont program.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on plant equipment and facilities.
• Diagnoses, tests, disassembles, inspects, repairs, and re-assembles plant equipment and company vehicles.
• Troubleshoots pneumatic and hydraulic components and electrical circuits (12-48 V DC).
• Replaces and adjusts mechanical clutches and drive trains; fabricates fixtures as needed.
• Operates lift equipment and documents labor and materials used for repairs.
• Reports abnormalities and safety hazards to supervisor and participates in housekeeping.

A Brief Summary Of This Position

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician will perform all activities regarding all technical work involving installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.

Starting Pay Rate (LG6):

$24.47 per hour*

• Step pay increases available at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years
• Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus

4th Shift Standard Schedule:

Friday - Sunday, 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM*

• Additional hours outside of the standard schedule may be required based on business needs.

Shift Benefits

• Work 36 hours and get paid for 40 hours

Essential Functions

• Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and facilities
• Performs diagnosis, testing, disassembly, inspecting, repair and re-assembly of plant equipment, forklift, straddle trucks, shag trucks, golf carts, and company vehicles
• Performs trouble shooting and servicing of pneumatic and hydraulic components
• Performs proper replacement and/or adjustment of mechanical clutches, drive trains, etc.
• Repair of worn parts, straightens and fabricates fixtures (welding, cutting, brazing, and surface hardening applications)
• Be able to trouble shoot electrical circuits, 12-48 volt DC
• Changes and repairs multiple tire sizes and styles
• Ability to perform major and general repairs on all equipment
• Required to record labor and material used on each repair made
• Required to take proper care and use of test equipment
• Required to properly use lift equipment (cranes, booms, man lifts, cherry picker, etc.)
• Available for occasional call outs during irregular hours to handle production coverage with little or no supervision
• Reports on all abnormal conditions and safety hazards to supervisor
• Will perform housekeeping and other routine tasks as directed
• Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job
• Make management aware of any training needs you have. Consult your management immediately if you are being asked to perform work for which you are not trained and/or are not comfortable doing because of potential safety or risk implications.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

• Must be able to use tire changing equipment and tools
• Must be able to trouble shoot DC voltages
• Read and write clearly
• Is always diligent to work safely, and to follow safe working practices, including Lockout/Tag Out procedures and other safety procedures
• Basic shop math. Multiplication, division, decimals to fractions, fractions to decimals.
• Obtain forklift and crane equipment certification from a Valmont program

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

• Experience using and/or operating forklifts and overhead cranes
• Knowledge of diesel and gas engines and transmissions
• Knowledge of how to work and diagnosis hydraulic systems
• Experience as an Industrial Mechanic
• Experience working with pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
• PC literate (PLC software, Windows, etc.)
• Be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results for internal and external customers

Working Environment And Physical Efforts

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection. There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time. Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
