Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking a reliable janitor for our Walker, MI plant. The role involves daily cleaning, basic maintenance, and janitorial tasks on the 3rd shift (10 PM to 6 AM, Sunday through Thursday).

You will support building systems, perform minor repairs, and ensure facilities meet safety and cleanliness standards. Ideal candidates have proven janitorial experience, knowledge of cleaning equipment, and the ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as janitor or in a similar role.
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment.
• Familiarity with handyman and basic landscaping practices.

Responsibilities

• Clean and repair building fixtures including lights, locks, windows, doors, screens, walls, floors, gutters and drains.
• Operate and perform routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC equipment and related systems.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that building systems operate efficiently.
• Perform maintenance tasks associated with building systems; such as carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Performs janitorial duties, when necessary: Clean, sanitize, and stock restrooms/locker rooms; dust and wipe surfaces; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; manage waste; use ladders; maintain grounds and landscape; clean windows and lunchroom areas.
• Other duties assigned by Management.

Who We Want

Prepares a systematic approach to the cleaning, repair, and maintenance of the building, grounds, equipment, and related facilities. Performs minor carpentry, painting, and plumbing maintenance work. Oversees the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.

What You’ll Do

• Clean and repair building fixtures including lights, locks, windows, doors, screens, walls, floors, gutters and drains.
• Operate and perform routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC equipment and related systems.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that building systems operate efficiently and that the physical condition of buildings do not deteriorate.
• Perform maintenance tasks associated with building systems; such as carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical repairs to ensure that the building is properly maintained.
• Performs janitorial duties, when necessary:
• Clean, sanitize, and stock restrooms/locker rooms using established practices and procedures.
• Clean, dust, and wipe furniture, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors.
• Empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers.
• Use ladders when required in work assignments.
• Remove outside debris and maintain grounds as assigned.
• Maintain the landscape around the buildings and fence lines.
• Clean all windows indoors.
• Clean and sanitize lunchroom floors, furniture and counters.
• Other duties assigned by the Management.

When And Where

This will be a 3rd Shift / 10PM-6AM S-TH position located at our Plant in Walker, MI.

Occasionally, this may require you to arrive early, stay late, or work on weekends, outside of our regular hours, to ensure we successfully meet customer needs, deadlines, or urgent requests.
