Job summary

Axogen, Inc. is seeking a Facilities & Maintenance Technician to oversee and ensure reliable operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of facility systems at the Vandalia location. This role covers HVAC, refrigeration, electrical systems, and building management to support temperature-controlled storage of biologic products.

The position requires GMP awareness, safety discipline, and the ability to lead maintenance programs while minimizing disruptions to operations and product integrity.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education: high school diploma or GED.
  • Able to work 3rd shift (11pm - 7:30am).
  • Related experience: 0-2 years in facilities maintenance.
  • Preferred: experience with HVAC, Refrigeration and electrical systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to manage system modifications and equipment changes.
  • Experience working in GMP / Regulated industries.
  • Certifications: CMRT, EPA 608, HVAC, Electrical License.

Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance and reliability of critical facility systems including HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Execute and manage preventive maintenance programs in compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively oversee and participate in any modification of facility equipment, furniture, layout etc.
  • Manage contractors and vendors ensuring compliance with GMP, safety and site hazards.
  • Respond to the resolution of facility emergencies, ensuring minimal disruption to operations and product integrity.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and utilize site systems and applications for tracking and reporting.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment and interact with other functional groups such as engineering, quality, regulatory and operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary of the Facilities & Maintenance Technician

The Facilities & Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of all critical facility systems within the designation Axogen location. This role leads daily facility operations involving HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and building management systems that support temperature-controlled storage and distribution of biologic products. The position ensures strict adherence to GMP, safety, and quality standards while minimizing operational disruptions that could impact product integrity.

Requirements of the Facilities & Maintenance Technician
  • Minimum Education Required: High school diploma / GED
  • Able to work 3rd shift (11pm - 730am, Sunday night - Friday morning)
  • Related Experience: 0-2 years of relevant facilities maintenance experience
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with HVAC, Refrigeration and electrical systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
  • Ability to manage system modifications and equipment changes
  • Experience working in GMP / Regulated industries
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) Relevant certifications (EPA 608, HVAC, Electrical License)

Physical Requirements

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 30 pounds of force and occasionally exerting up to 60 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the work requires the following: mental acuity, visual acuity, walking, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, hearing, and typing.

Working & Environmental Conditions

Work involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations. Axogen facilities include controlled environment where gowning is required and facilities that are controlled by HVAC. Frozen products require handling of dry ice with applicable PPE.

Benefits/Compensation

This position is eligible for an annual performance bonus after 6 months of service. 2nd and 3rd shift positions are eligible for additional shift differential. 2nd shift is an additional $1.50/hr and 3rd shift is an additional $2.00/hr.
