Job summary

American Heritage Railways in Durango, CO is seeking a Facilities Laborer for seasonal, hourly work to support maintenance across buildings and properties. You will assist techs with inspections, repairs, and routine upkeep to ensure safe, functional spaces for staff and guests.

The role requires basic facilities maintenance knowledge, the ability to use common tools, and a willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in varying conditions. Overtime and flexible hours may be needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Facilities Maintenance Technicians with inspecting Durango-based buildings, equipment, and appliances to verify proper function and perform regular upkeep.
  • Assist Facilities Maintenance Technicians in repairing structural and aesthetic damage and repair, as appropriate, to retain daily operations and ensure employee and guest safety.
  • Help proactively monitor and replace old/damaged appliances and appurtenances related to each property.
  • Clean and prepare vacated buildings and offices, when needed, to accommodate new occupants.
  • Assist with other special projects related to operations and grounds, such as Event Park duties, as needed

Job Summary:

The Facilities Laborer helps maintain all American Heritage Railways and DSNGRR-owned building facilities and properties throughout the Durango, Colorado area. This position will be responsible for helping ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our facilities by performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks. Your primary goal will be to maintain a safe and functional environment for employees and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist Facilities Maintenance Technicians with inspecting Durango-based buildings, equipment, and appliances to verify proper function and perform regular upkeep
  • Assist Facilities Maintenance Technicians in repairing structural and aesthetic damage and repair, as appropriate, to retain daily operations and ensure employee and guest safety
  • Help proactively monitor and replace old/damaged appliances and appurtenances related to each property.

Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of facilities maintenance or related skills.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve maintenance issues efficiently.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience working in a commercial building-repair/maintenance position, preferred
  • Some knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems preferred
  • Ability & desire to perform physically demanding work within a varying work schedule
Work Environment:
  • Working in and around rail yard within industrial shop environment
  • Occasional to frequent work in tight spaces (attic or crawl space), high areas (rooftop or scaffolding), and in varying climate conditions
  • Varied schedule sometimes requiring full-time hours with overtime work, or to be on-call and available after hours, when needed
  • Majority of time spent in and around construction projects or zones
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
