Job summary

Iowa Department of Public Defense is seeking a Facility Maintenance Coordinator to support the 132nd Air Wing at Des Moines, IA. The role collaborates with the Plant Operations Manager, Facility Manager and Base Civil Engineer to oversee daily facility maintenance and lead assigned staff.

Responsibilities include managing work orders, coordinating trades, and ensuring compliance with safety and design standards. A security clearance and a Class B CDL with airbrakes are required.

  • Three years of full-time work experience in the building and trades industry.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Maintenance Repairer.

Job description

What We Are Seeking:

The Department of Public Defense is hiring a Facility Maintenance Coordinator to work at the 132nd Air Guard Base, in Des Moines, IA to assist the Plant Operations Manager, Facility Manager and Base Civil Engineer in the day-to-day operations of facility maintenance program. This position acts as Lead over employees predetermined by the Plant Operations Manager, Facility Manager and Base Civil Engineer.

What You’ll Do:
  • Assist Supervisor by coordinating ongoing and new work orders. Distribute all preventative maintenance orders to the proper tradesman. Ensure completion dates and paperwork is filed timely.
  • Assist CE Operations with snow removal program and be the first point of contact for snow events. Maintain and repair snow removal equipment.
  • Performs construction and preventative maintenance on facilities and grounds including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, liquid fuels, janitorial, masonry, and landscape maintenance.
  • Perform building inspections, maintain records for facilities and installed equipment. Initiate work orders as needed. Ensure equipment operates within design standards. Understand and follow accepted industry practices to include shutdown and reactive system for maintenance repairs.
  • Perform monthly mechanical fire suppression checks, exercising fire pumps and record system pressures, maintain accurate records.
  • Perform back-flow inspections and repairs.
  • Manage, maintain and keep accurate records of CE Locksmith Program.
  • Ensures accountability for all equipment properly and accurately, making sure equipment is operating correctly, safely and kept clean.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on all assigned equipment such as inspections, greasing and repair or replace worn parts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, inspecting maintenance and construction projects and serving as a lead worker as assigned or in absence of the supervisor

Note - This position must be able to clear and maintain a security clearance. This position must have and maintain a Class B CDL with airbrakes.

Location and hours:

132ndAir Wing, Iowa Air National Guard, 3100 McKinley Ave, Des Moines, IA 50321. Working hours will be Tuesday - Friday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
