Job summary

San José State University is seeking a Laborer to perform general unskilled labor and semi-skilled facilities tasks within residential facilities and administrative offices in San Jose, CA. You will assist with repairs, move furniture, deliver equipment, and support annual events while keeping work areas clean and safe.

Physical ability for strenuous work and a willingness to work alternative schedules are required; forklift and defensive driving training are provided as needed to ensure safety

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for duties and follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.
• Must participate in OSHA required physicals and examinations.
• Experience with general non-maintenance and repair work is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs general non-maintenance and repair work; may perform repairs independently.
• Handles moving of residential furniture for custodial staff during turnover cleaning.
• Delivers and picks up desks, furniture, canopies, tables and chairs as requested.
• Maintains tools and materials in a safe, working condition.
• Performs yearly preventive maintenance on residential appliances as needed.
• Reports damages and submits maintenance requests for repairs.
