Sylvania is seeking a Facilities/Grounds Technician to maintain school buildings and grounds. The role involves cleaning, minor repairs, snow/ice removal, and general upkeep under the supervision of the Facilities Manager.

The position requires hands-on maintenance skills, ability to operate tools and equipment, and a willingness to be on-call. Excellent safety awareness and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience in building and grounds maintenance is preferred.
Ability to operate and maintain basic tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

Perform custodial and groundskeeping tasks to keep facilities clean and safe.
Perform minor repairs and coordinate larger repairs as needed.
Maintain climate control equipment and inspect facilities for safety and operability.
On-call duty required.
Document work and repairs as requested.

Facilities/Grounds Technician

Terms of Employment

Full-time position - 260 days (depending on start date) 8 hours per day. Pay per Classified Salary Schedule- Category II ($20.11 - $30.68) to be determined by qualifications and experience.

This position qualifies benefits.
The district provides its employees with a comprehensive benefits program including medical, life, and dental insurance.
The district provides three medical plans for which it pays the fullpremiumfor employees,and a fourth option is a buy-up plan for which the district pays most of thepremium.
In addition, the district pays the full employeepremiumfor dental insurance and life insurance.
The district contributes to PERA on each employee's behalf and offers additional retirement savings options as well as optional supplemental insurance.
Employees also receive paidtime off.
Workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance are provided in accordance with State law.
This position qualifies for paid leave: 5 annual leave days, 6 sick leave days and 10 vacation days (leave days will be prorated depending on start date and FTE.)

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager, to maintain school buildings in orderly, neat, and operable condition.

Essential Job Functions

Performs tasks to keep school buildings and grounds in orderly, neat, and clean conditions such as clearing disposing of trash, mowing, trimming, weed control, cleaning bathrooms and floors, washing windows, dusting furniture and fixtures, touch up painting and related tasks. Custodial duties as needed.
Perform tasks to maintain buildings in safe and operable condition, such as making minor repairs to property as requested, clearing snow and ice when needed, and related tasks
Acts as a general handyman and grounds keeper
On call duty required
Inspects equipment and facilities and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor
Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity
Check all building entrances/exits to ensure that they are working properly
Opens and closes building and ensures that all doors and windows are closed and securely locked prior to leaving
Maintains motors and other mechanical equipment and ensures that such equipment receives scheduled service.
Obtains equipment, tools and materials required for completion of assigned work.
Maintains inventory of supplies, materials, equipment, and fuel, and places orders as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of maintenance tasks
Inspects equipment and facilities and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor
Prepares and maintains records to document work and repairs as requested

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Facilities Manager and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including saws, mowers, trimmers, drills, routers, planers, sanders, jointers, and stationery and ride on power equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance, methods and procedures in the carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical trades
Knowledge of groundskeeper methods in mowing, trimming, fertilizer.
Knowledge of occupational safety and health laws and regulations
Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure
Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed
Ability to troubleshoot, solve problems and resolve electrical or electricity issues
Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work

Safety Requirements

Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used.
Wear appropriate safety gear.

Travel Requirements

Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Ability to withstand heights and work in crawl spaces.
Typical risks associated with using tools of the trade.
Occasional strenuous physical work includes lifting top 75 lbs.
Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.

Qualifications Profile/Education/Experience

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
