The Supervisor, Facilities & Grounds at Goodwill Legacy Group oversees daily operations, maintenance, and grounds across all locations. This leadership role, based in Indianapolis, supervises Facilities & Grounds Technicians and staff, coaching them to meet safety, quality, and customer expectations.

Job description

This is a leadership role based in the Indianapolis area. The general pay range is $52-$65K and includes full benefits (below).

The Supervisor, Facilities & Grounds at Goodwill Legacy Group is responsible for directly managing and overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and groundskeeping activities across all Goodwill locations. This position supervises Facilities & Grounds Technicians and related staff, ensuring all facilities and exterior grounds are maintained in a safe, functional, clean, and professional manner. The Supervisor leads, coaches, and develops staff while ensuring compliance with departmental procedures, safety standards, preventative maintenance programs, and customer expectations. Responsibilities include coordinating building maintenance, landscaping, repairs, vendor services, work order management, and grounds maintenance activities, including pesticide application and lawn care. This role establishes operational expectations, monitors quality and performance standards, and fosters a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement. This role works closely with internal departments, contractors, and leadership to support organizational goals while maintaining efficient and compliant facilities operations.

Example Duties and Activities
  • Directly supervises and oversees Facilities & Grounds Technicians and related staff, assigning daily work activities and monitoring productivity, quality, and safety performance.

  • Oversees troubleshooting, repairs, preventative maintenance, and routine upkeep of buildings, equipment, and physical grounds at all Goodwill locations.

  • Supervises groundskeeping operations, including mowing, landscaping, snow removal, pesticide application, irrigation systems, and seasonal property maintenance.

  • Ensures facilities and grounds are maintained in compliance with safety regulations, company standards, and customer expectations.

  • Provides coaching, training, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to Facilities & Grounds staff.

  • Assists with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, evaluating, and developing employees to support departmental and organizational goals.

  • Establishes a culture of accountability, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the department.

  • Performs and oversees technician-level work as needed during staffing shortages, training activities, emergency situations, or special projects.

  • Coordinates and performs routine facility maintenance including painting, carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical work, furniture relocation, and equipment repairs.

  • Operates hand tools, power tools, lawncare equipment, maintenance vehicles, and machinery while ensuring compliance with all safety procedures.

  • Travels between company locations using company vehicles to inspect facilities, oversee work activities, and perform maintenance or grounds services.

  • Monitors and ensures timely completion of work orders and preventative maintenance tasks utilizing the CMMS system.

  • Maintains accurate maintenance records, repair documentation, inspection logs, and compliance reports.

  • Communicates effectively with Facilities leadership, internal customers, contractors, and vendors regarding maintenance schedules, repairs, and operational priorities.

  • Assists with procurement, inventory management, vendor coordination, and contractor oversight related to facilities and grounds operations.

  • Tracks departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency and service quality.

  • Maintains all required certifications, safety training, and licensing associated with facilities maintenance and pesticide application.

  • Cross-trains staff and supports operational needs across multiple facilities and maintenance disciplines.

Required Competencies
  • Facilities Management Expertise Demonstrates knowledge of facility maintenance, building systems, groundskeeping operations, preventative maintenance practices, landscaping, and safety compliance. Experience overseeing multiple facilities or sites preferred. Familiarity with CIMS standards and CMMS systems is a plus.

  • People Management - Effectively supervises, coaches, develops, and motivates Facilities & Grounds staff to achieve operational goals while fostering a positive and productive work environment.

  • Project Management - Oversees several work streams and delivers against complex scopes, implementing strategies that outline time, resources, requirements, deadlines, and responses to unexpected events in order to streamline operations.

  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customer and employee needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.

  • Technical Knowledge - Has solid knowledge of G Suite, MS Office, and the Internet. Prior Experience using a CMMS to handle work orders and PM checklists is an additional plus.

  • Results-Oriented - Is moved to recognize what results are important and what steps need to be taken to achieve goals or targets for self or others. Adept at effectively prioritizing multiple priorities.

  • Moderate to Hard Physical Work - when modeling work performance for the staff, may walk and frequently be required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Can manage frequent exposure to dust, dirt, debris, and dust particles in the air. May regularly be exposed to slippery floors and moving mechanical parts of equipment. The noise level is generally low.

  • Visual Acuity - Has close and distance vision abilities and is able to adjust focus.

  • Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check.

  • Driving - Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and qualify under the district's insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
