Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking applicants for a general maintenance and construction role focused on maintaining facilities, grounds, and equipment. The position covers routine repairs, remodeling, and upgrades across a range of trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.

The successful candidate will perform tasks with minimal supervision, maintain logs, and support loading/unloading operations as needed.

Qualifications

Two years of experience in building maintenance or construction trades.
Valid Utah driver’s license required; license must be obtained to operate county vehicle within six months of hire.
Some departments may require a UDOT Medical Card and/or CDL within six months of hire.
Background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in RAP Back as required by County policy.
Must pass a mandatory drug test before starting; may be subject to random/chronic testing.

Responsibilities

Transports and operates light, medium, or heavy equipment.
Maintains service vehicles, equipment, and hand/power tools.
Prepares records and reports; maintains work request and safety records.
Assists with loading/unloading dock deliveries and shipments.
Troubleshoots basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, painting tasks; notes safety issues.
Reads blueprints/schematics; estimates materials, labor, and time; ensures code compliance.
May order/stock materials and distribute supplies within facilities.
May assist licensed electricians and plumbers as allowed without license.
Assists HVAC technicians with maintenance and repair of equipment.
