Job summary

Salem University is seeking a Maintenance/Grounds Worker to maintain buildings, facilities, and grounds, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. You will perform routine groundskeeping, basic building repairs, and support events.

This non-exempt role requires hands-on experience with lawn care, landscaping, painting, plumbing basics, and equipment operation. You will join the Facilities team, work mostly outdoors, and report to the Executive Director

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid driver's license and DMV/MVR-related requirements as a condition of employment.
• Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and maintenance equipment.
• Commitment to safety and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine lawn maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, and debris cleanup.
• Maintain grounds and landscaping: plant, water, fertilize, mulch, prune, and manage landscaped areas.
• Operate lawn care equipment safely and efficiently (mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers).
• Perform general building maintenance and minor repairs, painting, patching, and light plumbing.
• Assist with event setups, moving furniture/equipment, and setup/breakdown for meetings.
• Respond to maintenance requests and safety requirements; participate in safety meetings.
