Job summary

Panasonic Energy Corporation of North America seeks a Facilities Fire Systems Technician – Level 3 in De Soto, Kansas to inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire protection and life-safety systems across the site. You will support contractors and collaborate with internal teams to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance in a large-scale battery facility.

The role requires 2+ years of relevant experience, knowledge of low-voltage systems, and strong safety practices.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a Fire Systems Technician or relevant field.
  • Ability to lift, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical safety and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Experience with low-voltage systems (fire alarm, security, building automation).
  • Background in plumbing, pipe-fitting, or mechanical trades, especially water-based fire protection.
  • Must have working-level English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Align with Panasonic’s seven core principles.

Job Summary:

The Facilities Fire Systems Technician – Level 3 performs inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire protection and life-safety systems to ensure reliability, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance across the site. As part of the Facilities organization, this role supports fire alarm, detection, suppression, and related infrastructure systems. Working under supervision, this position collaborates with internal teams and contractors to support safe, compliant, and resilient facility operations.

Essential Duties:
Functional Operations:
  • Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on fire alarm, suppression, fire extinguishers, and life-safety systems
  • Maintain working knowledge of site-specific hazards and safety procedures to support safe and compliant operations
  • Operate and maintain fire protection tools, equipment, and related system components, including inventory control
  • Support contractors during inspections, testing, and repairs by providing system access and technical assistance
  • Assist in reviewing contractor work and report deficiencies
  • Assist with investigation and troubleshooting of fire protection system alarms, faults, impairments, and unwanted system activations, following established procedures and coordinating with internal teams and contractors as directed
Performance Optimization & Continuous Improvement:
  • Perform preventative maintenance
  • Identify system deficiencies and support corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection documentation, and daily issue logs
Training & Team Support:
  • Train and mentor technicians at the same or lower level
  • Participate in certification and technical development programs (NICET, OSHA, NFPA, manufacturer training)
  • Support technical training, system readiness activities, and continuous improvement initiatives related to fire protection and life-safety systems
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication:
  • Maintain working knowledge of site hazards and applicable safety procedures
  • Support documentation and sharing of lessons learned
  • Collaborate with Facilities, EHS, contractors, and external agencies to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
Quality, Safety, & Compliance:
  • Follow established procedures to maintain compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company policies
  • Support Permit to Work activities as required
  • Support proper implementation of processes and procedures
  • Maintain 6S and plant quality standards
  • Meet PPE requirements
  • Work all assigned shift hours

Education, Certifications, and Licenses:
Required :
  • High school diploma, GED, or 2 years of prior experience in functional area
  • Current state-issued driver's license
Preferred :
  • Associate degree in Fire Protection Technology, Fire Science, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, Engineering, or related technical field
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship program in facilities maintenance, fire protection, electrical, sprinkler fitting, or related trade
  • Relevant technical training in fire alarm, suppression systems, or life-safety systems
  • OSHA 30 Certification
Essential Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience as a Fire Systems Technician or relevant field
  • Ability to lift, climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces
  • Basic knowledge of electrical safety practices and lockout/tagout procedures
  • Experience with low-voltage systems, such as fire alarm, security, or building automation wiring
  • Background in plumbing, pipe-fitting, or mechanical trades, particularly involving water-based fire protection systems
  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience as a Fire Systems Technician or relevant field
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards such as National Fire Protection Association NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B
  • Experience with integrated building systems (BMS, security, HVAC interfaces with fire alarm systems)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical manuals
  • Knowledge of building fire protection standards, system types (fire alarm, dampers, dry/wet systems, standpipes, fire hydrants, and fire suppression systems), sequence of operations, impairment procedures, and fire watch procedures
  • Experience interacting with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) during inspections or testing activities
  • Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or large campus environments
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:
  • To ensure health and safety in the workplace and for employee protection, wearing PPE is required and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. A respirator fit test will be required based on functional area.
