Job summary

Porton Pharma Solutions Ltd. seeks a Facility Engineer to support operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of J-Star Research facilities and building systems, with emphasis on HVAC, utilities, and laboratory infrastructure.

You will troubleshoot facility systems, coordinate contractors, drive preventative maintenance, and ensure GMP, FDA, EPA, OSHA, and EHS compliance in a regulated pharmaceutical environment. Strong problem-solving and communication skills required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Mechanical/Facilities Engineering or related field.
• 3–7 years experience in facility engineering, HVAC, Steam & Reheat boilers, Water treatment, Plumbing, building Management systems (Ivu, Honeywell Nigra), or maintenance roles.
• Hands-on experience with HVAC systems, building utilities, and facility maintenance.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, laboratory, or regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
• Knowledge of GMP, FDA, EPA, OSHA, and EHS requirements is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support daily operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of facility systems, with primary focus on HVAC systems, building utilities, and laboratory infrastructure.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities for HVAC systems, including air handling units, ventilation systems, temperature/humidity controls, and related equipment.
• Monitor facility environmental conditions and support troubleshooting of HVAC-related issues, including temperature control, airflow, and pressure differentials.
• Maintain and support facility utility systems, including electrical, plumbing, lighting, alarms, backup generators, and other building systems.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to complete facility maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects.
• Maintain preventive maintenance records, service documentation, and facility-related compliance records.
• Support facility modifications, equipment installations, and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Assist with regulatory inspections, customer audits, and internal audits by ensuring facility readiness and proper documentation.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable GMP, FDA, EPA, OSHA, DEA, and EHS requirements.
• Participate in emergency response activities and on-call support as required.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Job description

The Facility Engineer is responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of J-Star Research facilities and related building systems. This role focuses on HVAC systems, facility utilities, maintenance activities, and engineering support to ensure reliable, safe, and compliant operation of laboratory and research facilities.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with HVAC systems, facility maintenance, and building utility systems within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, laboratory, or other regulated environments. The candidate should be able to troubleshoot facility systems, coordinate contractors, support preventative maintenance programs, and ensure compliance with applicable GMP, FDA, EPA, OSHA, and EHS requirements.

• Hands-on experience with HVAC systems, building utilities, and facility maintenance.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, laboratory, or regulated manufacturing environments preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• VAC certification (EPA 608 or equivalent) is a plus.
• Experience with IVU Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Honeywell Niagara BMS platforms for monitoring, control, and troubleshooting of facility HVAC and building systems is a plus.
• Experience operating, troubleshooting, and supporting Fulton low-pressure steam boilers and Cleaver-Brooks steam boiler systems is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with building automation controls, steam generation systems, and utility equipment commonly utilized in pharmaceutical, laboratory, and regulated facilities is a plus.
• Experience supporting GMP laboratories, controlled environments, or pharmaceutical facilities.
