PURPOSE

The Columbia Public School district is seeking a Carpenter to repair, replace, inspect and maintain multiple projects throughout the district.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Carpentry inspections, repairs, replacements and maintenance
  • Ensures proper care in the use of maintenance of equipment and supplies;
  • Performs time and material estimates for repairs and renovation projects;
  • Carpentry duties include but are not limited to new construction, renovations and repairs; building walls; window repairs, door and lock repairs; furniture repairs

Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Carpentry Supervisor of FCS & Building Administrator(s)

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Five years’ experience working in the field.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions related to work assignments.
  • Knowledge of the safe use of supplies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, building cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative and positive relationship with other people.
  • Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.

ADA REQUIREMENTS

  • Language: Read and write in the English language; Interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural; Write routine reports and memos; Respond to requests from staff members.
  • Computation: Add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of American money, weight, volume and distance.
  • Reasoning: Solve practical problems; Interpret instructions given orally or in writing by diagram, schedule, or form.
  • Technology: Minimal use of technology is required, including data entry into inventory records.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others; Good personal hygiene; Excellent customer service skills.
  • Physical Demands: Regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects/tools or controls and talk and hear; frequently required to reach, climb, bend, squat, stoop and kneel; must continuously use hand strength to grasp and use tools and climb ladders; must frequently lift or move 50 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 90 pounds; frequently push or pull items such as desks, tables, bleachers and scrubbing machines; specific vision requirements include close and peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential duty of this position.
  • Conditions and Environment: The duties of this job requires the employee to regularly work indoors and occasionally works outdoors; employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment; employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemical; noise level of the work environment is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud.
