General Purpose of Job

Serving under the direction of the Director of Operations, assist with the logistics & maintenance services of the East Cleveland Corps Community Center. The Facilities Assistant will support and maintain the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Vision of the East Cleveland Corps in accordance with all applicable internal & external policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (as directed by Director of Operations):

  • General maintenance of all Salvation Army property including parking lot areas; cleaning offices, classrooms, bathrooms, etc. interior and exterior of facility—regular floor care (vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, shampooing carpet, stripping & waxing) required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of air vents & intakes.
  • Small repairs and troubleshoot all mechanical systems; minor repairs include ceiling tile change, stopping leaks, equipment assembly & repair.
  • Ensure rooms are heating & cooling as necessary, reporting concerns to Director of Operations.
  • Receive deliveries, ensuring secure packing & coverage; after packing, sweep/mop spills.
  • Assist with food delivery, verify delivery bill and unloading goods.
  • Maintain records of all in‑kind donations.
  • Routine vehicle maintenance including cleaning, fluid checks, etc., as assigned.
  • Assist with inventory of cleaning supplies, purchasing under guidance of Corps Officers.
  • Assist with exterior grounds maintenance (sidewalks, field, lawns, perimeter) including trash, snow & ice removal.
  • Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior trash cans.
  • Drive 12‑passenger van and/or box truck for donation pickups and Red Kettle Campaign support.
  • Assist with room setup & breakdown as necessary to facilitate operations.

OCCASIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (as directed by Director of Operations):

  • Assist with stocking shelves of food items adhering to applicable health codes & practices.
  • Participate in and support the implementation of special activities and events for the East Cleveland Corps.
  • Be prepared and willing to assist with the administration of seasonal programs including Christmas Toys & Kettles, Back‑To‑School, etc.
  • Perform any other duties required by supervisor or Administration.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED with 1‑2 years of related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; maintained throughout employment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to function in a fast‑paced, frequently changing work environment with multitasking.
  • Strong organization skills and detail oriented.
  • Professional attitude and approach to problem‑solving.
  • Good interpersonal skills and team player.
  • Good communication skills.
