Job summary

Büro Ehring, an international architectural engineering firm, seeks an experienced Senior Façade Designer/Engineer to lead technical façade design across a range of projects. You will deliver building envelope drawings and 3D models in Revit/Rhino, coordinate with teams, and ensure code compliance and budget adherence.

Ideal candidates have a Master’s degree, 2–6 years of façade experience, and licensed or license-eligible status in NY/NJ.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in architecture, structural engineering, or building systems strongly preferred.
• 2–6 years’ experience with façades and specialized enclosure designs on diverse projects.
• Active professional license (RA/PE) in NY or NJ or ability to obtain within 6 months; PH designer a plus.
• Keen interest in design and engineering with collaborative teamwork.
• In-depth knowledge of enclosure design, thermal, air, waterproofing and codes like IBC/IECC/ASHRAE.

Responsibilities

• Design façade and enclosure types from schematic through construction administration.
• Develop building envelope designs for projects of varying scale and complexity.

• Produce 2D drawings and 3D models in Rhino/AutoCAD/Revit; supervise junior staff.

We are seeking an experienced (Senior) Façade Designer/Engineer who aspires to the highest standards of excellence to join our Facade Practice. The successful candidate participates in technical façade design work on a large range of project types and scales to assure that project goals are met, and deliverables are developed in accordance with appropriate codes, within budget and on schedule. Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Architecture, Structural Engineering, or Building Systems & Sustainability is strongly preferred.
• 2 to 6 years of demonstrated experience, working on building facades and specialized enclosure designs of technically challenging cultural, commercial, residential, institutional building and/or specialty projects.
• Active professional license (RA, PE) registered in New York or New Jersey or ability to obtain license within 6 months of hire is preferred. Certified Passive House (PH) designer is a plus.
• A keen interest in design and engineering, a positive approach, and the ability to work effectively as part of a diverse and inclusive team in a creative atmosphere.
• In-depth knowledge of enclosure (thermal, air, waterproofing) design and technical detailing over a range of system types.
• Thorough understanding and working knowledge of the latest design codes and agency standards such as IBC, IECC, and ASHRAE.
• Prior experience performing and overseeing planning, design, filing and bid document preparation, construction-phase administration, etc. in support of project goals and in compliance with codes and regulations.
• Proficiency in Revit, Rhinoceros, and Grasshopper/Dynamo design and production software. Ability to develop and direct building envelope and specialty enclosure drawing sets and models.
• Technically savvy with experience in coding and scripting, particularly in applying computational tools to automate, analyze, and improve design workflows, using tools such as Python, Dynamo, C++.
• Experience in building science analytics, energy modeling, COMcheck, and expertise in software LBNL THERM, Window, Radiance, Ladybug, and Honeybee.
• Strong understanding of effective application of AI to enhance workflows, such as the creation of AI skills and use of AI agents, while maintaining an awareness of AI shortcomings.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design a large array of façade and specialty enclosure types from Schematic Design through Construction Administration.
• Develop and detail building envelope and specialty enclosure designs for projects ranging in scale, scope, complexity, and materiality.
• Perform code analysis to ensure compliance with appropriate codes and standards.
• Produce and oversee the detailing and drafting of 2D details and 3D models in Rhinoceros. Mark up drawings and details for the junior staff.
• Prepare and oversee the production of building envelope and specialty enclosure drawing sets in AutoCAD and Revit and/or energy models for energy code compliance.
• Participate and collaborate in project team settings, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate concepts and ideas with clients and reviewing agencies.
• Solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
• Take initiative on tasks and coordinate with other members of the design team.
• Manage multiple projects within specified timeline and budget.
• Write and edit specifications for building envelope components and scope.
• Build and sustain effective relationships with current and potential clients through regular communication.
