Job summary

Forterra is seeking a skilled Fabricator/Welder to join our on-site team in Clarksburg, MD. The role focuses on fabrication, welding, and assembly of diverse metal parts, requiring reading schematics and hands-on use of machining tools.

Candidates should have TIG welding experience and be able to interpret drawings and follow ISO/GMP practices. Ideal applicants will perform stock cutting, machining, bending, welding, and painting through the full build process, with attention to fixture design

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Trade school diploma may substitute for two years of industrial experience.
• Three years machine shop or related experience.
• Experience with low quantity high diversity parts (brackets, heatsinks, electrical enclosures).
• Experience TIG welding aluminum.
• Background in fabricating and welding.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and requirements.
• Willing to perform build steps from stock cutting to painting.
• Creativity in fixturing parts for machining and welding.
• Familiar with ISO Standards and GMPs.

Responsibilities

• Operate HAAS CNC Mills, Lathe, Drill Press, Band saw, and media blasting.
• Apply painting quality finishes and hot coat powder coat system.
• Use hand tools and dimensional checkers (calipers, height gauges, etc.).
• Perform stock cutting, machining, bending, welding, hardware install, and painting as needed.
• Cross-check parts with teammates before final assembly.

About the role

Forterra is seeking a skilled Fabricator/Welder to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metalworking and fabrication techniques, with the ability to read and interpret schematics. This role requires mechanical knowledge and hands-on experience with various fabrication tools and machinery. As a Fabricator/Welder, you will contribute to the production of high-quality components used in various applications.

What you'll do

• Ability to operate the following machine shop equipment:
• HAAS CNC Mills (willing to train right candidate)
• Lathe
• Drill Press
• Band saw
• Media blasting
• Angle Grinder
• Painting quality finishes on various materials.
• Hot Coat Powder Coat System.
• Use various hand tools for dimensionally checking parts such as but not limited to calipers, height gages, pin gages, thread gages, countersink indicators.
• Use of basic Hand and power tools to complete tasking.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Accredited trade school diploma may be substituted for two years industrial experience.
• Three years machine shop or related experience.
• Experience in low quantity high diversity parts such as brackets, heatsinks, and electrical enclosures.
• Experience TIG welding Aluminum.
• Background in fabricating and welding.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and requirements.
• Ideal candidate will be able to perform (or willing to learn) each step of the build process from stock cutting, machining, bending, welding, hardware install, and painting.
• Creativity of fixturing parts for machining and welding.
• Cross check other team members parts as needed.
• Familiar with ISO Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to organize, present, and articulate ideas both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of MS Office.
• Safe lifting technique and ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, sit, bend or lift for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with 3D cad software.
• Experience with CNC machine operation or programming.

US Hourly Range
$35 - $40 /hr

The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra’s overall compensation package.
