Essential Job Functions:

  • Follow standard operating procedures as well as written and verbal orders and instructions in English.
  • Lift up to 75 lbs. and be in good physical condition. Standing, bending, climbing, crawling, and lying on hard surfaces as well as upper body and back strength required.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures as stated in the company policy and safety manual including wearing safety glasses, safety toed footwear, hardhats, and other required PPE per area.
  • Able to work in a noisy environment.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Actively pursue cost reduction measures.
  • Perform all assigned tasks within specific time limits and company standards.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure.
  • Must comply with all safety regulations regarding the work area, the product and equipment. Recognize and report all safety discrepancies to your supervisor.
  • Willing to develop a thorough knowledge of all aspects of this field including products, options, & uses.
  • Ability to learn how to read and understand simple blue prints.
  • Ability & willingness to be cross-trained in respective departments.
  • Able to learn about parts and where they are used as well as the number required per assigned task.
  • Communicate with department leaders when items run low in order to restock/reorder parts.
  • Possess some prior experience from outside of the company or has mastered all the required skills at the previous level in order to advance.
  • Willingness to share department and company knowledge as needed.
  • Ability to write down information for future reference.
  • Ability to become a certified welder.

Daily Functions:

  • Execute proper fixturing and set up.
  • Perform metal arc welding of ladder components, torque box, and miscellaneous parts as well as required sanding per company standards and quality cosmetic appearance. This includes inside of torque box and body compartments which may cause awkward positioning.
  • Build from blue prints, shop orders, etc.
  • Use hand tools, sanders, and grinders and operate plasma cutter, torch, shear bar-angle, & iron saw
  • Perform acceptable welds in qualified process and position under supervision and guidance of a Welder II or higher.
  • Willingness to learn NDT testing acceptability standards.
  • Sand and grind welds and/or parts.
  • Ability to identify different types of welding styles.
  • Identify and place parts in designated areas.
  • Ability to correctly set welder for weld type.
  • Ability to do a rough set on welder settings.
  • Ability to perform tack welding.
  • Ability to read weld symbols and specifications on blue prints.
  • Understand and adhere to excellent quality work standards.

Required Tests:

  • Must be able to pass a Flat Weld Test in aluminum and steel.
  • Eye injuries & exposure to ultra violet rays: welding can cause damage to eyes. Required to wear an approved helmet with a lens tinted to 10 or darker per OSHA standards, or an electronic lens set to at least 10 when welding. Eye protection and face shield must be worn when sanding to prevent eye injury.
  • Burns: wear PPE when welding to protect against burns.
  • Trips & falls: ensure all air hoses and obstacles are kept clear of aisles.
  • Heavy lifting: ask co-worker for help or use a crane or forklift operator when lifting objects over 75 lbs.
  • Air quality: wear respirator when in close quarters due to gases from welding, if needed.
