Job summary

MRC Global US Inc. in La Porte, Texas, seeks a skilled fabrication/maintenance specialist to help run and improve shop operations. You will fabricate parts, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure safety procedures are followed to produce quality pipe, valve, and fitting products.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading pipe, operating band saws and pipe bending equipment, maintaining logs and SOPs, and supporting daily production goals. Prior welding/fabrication experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vo-Tech training or equivalent experience in welding and fabrication.
  • Three years’ experience preferred but open to other applicants.
  • Knowledge of assembly, parts, and ability to read specifications.
  • Experience with PVF products and basic welding functions.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate new parts for customers.
  • Perform basic maintenance on machinery.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on facility machinery.
  • Write and maintain SOPs and JSAs.
  • Load and unload pipe and palletize products for shipping.
  • Support and assist VEMC and sales team on projects.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees.
  • Be available for on-call after-hours service.

Job description

Job Purpose

Help maintain the successful operation of the fabrication shop. Maximize production and create quality products for our customers. Adhere to all written procedures and all safety standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Individual must be able to perform the essential duties with reasonable accommodation.

The Role’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Fabricate new parts for customers.
  • Perform basic maintenance on machinery.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery.
  • Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
  • Complete daily maintenance and repair logs.
  • Load and unload pipe.
  • Palletize products for shipping.
  • Support and Assist VEMC.
  • Maintain and secure work tools.
  • Clean and maintain work area.
  • Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use.
  • Communicate with the shop lead for daily workload.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Be available for on-call after-hours service.
  • Communicate with sales team on existing and upcoming projects.
  • Perform quality control procedures.
  • Take reasonable care for the safety and health of yourself and others.
  • Report workplace hazards, injuries, or illnesses immediately.
Required Experience

High school diploma or a GED (General Education Degree).

Vo-Tech Training or equal experience in welding and fabrication.

Preferred Experience

Three years’ experience preferred, but will consider other applicants.

Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge in the following areas: assembly;
  • parts;
  • ability to read and understand specifications;
  • quality control;
  • and safety.

Working knowledge of PVF products and basic welding functions with carbon and stainless-steel pipe.

Experience using one or more of the following tools: horizontal band saw, cutting and threading machine.

Ability to set up and operate machinery such as a pipe bending machine.

Ability to read and interpret specifications required by the customer.

Ability to read and understand a standard tape measure.

Overhead crane and sit-down forklift experience preferred.

Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.

Must be able to complete fabrication certification after training.

Working Conditions

Ability to work in warehouse conditions exposed to various elements of temperature and noise. (non-climate-controlled).
