Job summary

ASTEC in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, is seeking a Welder to join our shop team. This full-time role involves welding heavy and large mechanical components to spec, reading blueprints, and ensuring clean welds through grinding.

Candidates should be able to pass a welding skills test and work safely in a manufacturing environment. There is a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and teamwork with Fitters on assembly and adherence to company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 0-1 year welding experience required.
• Heavy equipment manufacturing experience preferred.
• Computer experience desired (mouse usage, basic file/program navigation).
• Knowledge and ability to perform all grinder tasks.
• Ability to properly and safely MIG weld, stick weld, and arc gouging.
• Ability to read and understand welding symbols.

Responsibilities

• Inspect metal prior to welding for smoothness and acceptability.
• Weld metal components using MIG and stick welding processes.
• Perform grinding operations to meet quality standards.
• Read blueprints and welding symbols to guide work.
• Maintain welding equipment and keep work area clean.
