Responsibilities

• Transport materials/tools within Fabrication Shop; stand fire watch; painting; blasting; safe operation of machines for cutting, bending, rolling, shaping; and assisting in metal preparation/fit up for welding.
• Level I–III: operate basic to advanced fabrication equipment (saws, iron workers, presses, blasting cabinet, forklift, lasers/torch where applicable).
• Overtime is routinely required; second shift work may be required.
• Perform other assignments to support the organization’s mission and goals.
• Follow NAVSEA specifications and maritime industry standards.

Position Title: Fabrication Technician I, II, III

Work Location: Chesapeake, VA 1st or 2nd Shift

Summary of duties – Fabrication Technician I possess a basic understanding of Fabrication processes to include, but not limited to, the safe use of common hand tools, basic understanding of measuring devices, and can read blueprints. Tasks are accomplished as assigned by the Fabrication Shop Supervisor or under the supervision of a senior Fabrication team member and in accordance with company work instructions. Fabrication Technician II is experienced in Fabrication processes to include, but not limited to, the safe use of common hand tools, understanding of measuring devices, and can read/interpret blueprints. At times, tasks assigned by the Fabrication Shop Supervisor with little or no direct supervision of a Fabrication team member and in accordance with company work instructions. Periodically required to lift/move equipment up to and including 50 pounds. Additional duties and/or responsibilities of other positions may also be assigned for which qualifications are met. Fabrication Technician III is experienced in Fabrication processes to include, but not limited to, the safe use of common hand tools, advanced understanding of measuring devices, and can read/interpret/convey blueprints. Execute tasks assigned by the Fabrication Shop Supervisor with little or no direct supervision and in accordance with company work instructions. Frequently required to lift/move equipment up to and including 50 pounds. Additional duties and/or responsibilities of other positions may also be assigned for which qualifications are met. Working knowledge of, but not limited to, NAVSEA specifications and Maritime Industry Standards.

Specific description of duties:

• Level I – Must be familiar with/Level II – must have working knowledge with/Level III must have advanced working knowledge with basic fabrication equipment to include but not limited to:
  • Vertical Saw
  • Horizontal Saw
  • Iron Worker
  • Manual Press Brake
  • Hydraulic Press Brake
  • Blasting Cabinet
  • Forklift
  • Pneumatic and Electric hand tools
  • Drill press
  • Metal Forming using brakes and presses

• Overtime is routinely required but not guaranteed
• At times second shift work may be required.

• Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.

Level III

Education/Specialized Training:

Level I:

• HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations.
• Associates degree or trade school certificate preferred, but not required (in related field), or 12 months related experience.

Level II:

• HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations.
• Associates degree or trade school certificate preferred, but not required (in related field)
• Must have 2+ years of related experience.
• Must have 2+ years of fabrication shop experience.

Level III:

• HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations.
• Associates degree or trade school certificate preferred, but not required (in related field)
• Must have 5+ years of related experience.
• Must have 5+ years of fabrication shop experience.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve issues with little or no guidance.

Security Clearance:

• Clearance up to secret level may be required.
• Must be a U.S. citizen

Certification / Licenses (as required for the task being performed)

• Fire watch certification
• Forklift License preferred

Physical/Environmental Job Requirements:

Physical requirements include the following:

• Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds
• Standing for long periods of time

In performing these duties, you may be required to work outdoors. You will experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises, and other physical hazards.
