Job summary

AXCS Equipment in West Bend, WI seeks a Fabrication & Shop Technician to support multiple fabrication tasks including welding, robotic welding, press brake operations, and shipping duties. You will read blueprints, inspect work, and ensure quality while maintaining safety.

Crosstraining across processes and flexible shop coverage are expected. The ideal candidate has a welding background, forklift comfort, and the ability to adapt to changing production needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with welding certification preferred.
  • Experience welding, fabrication or manufacturing required.
  • Experience operating robotic welders and press brakes.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use measuring instruments.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Weld MIG on steel components per drawings and work instructions.
  • Tack weld assemblies and finish welds to quality standards.
  • Read blueprints and inspect completed work for accuracy.
  • Operate robotic welding cells and perform inspections.
  • Set up and operate press brake equipment to bend components.
  • Prepare finished products for shipment and handle material movement.
  • Maintain clean, safe work environment and assist in other areas as needed.

Job Description

The Fabrication & Shop Technician is a versatile member of the fabrication team responsible for supporting multiple areas of fabrication. This position should be capable of performing a variety of tasks including metal forming, welding, material handling, and shipping duties to help ensure products are moved and manufactured safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, and has flexibility to work wherever needed throughout the shop. The function will be a key resource for the Plant Manager.

Welding
  • Perform MIG welding on steel components according to drawings and work instructions.
  • Tack weld assemblies prior to final welding.
  • Grind and finish welds to meet quality standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and fabrication drawings.
  • inspect completed work to ensure dimensional accuracy and weld quality.
Robotic Welding
  • Load and unload parts into robotic welding cells.
  • Operate robotic welding equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform routine quality inspections on welded components.
  • Make minor fixture adjustments and report equipment issues to Plant Manager.
Press Brake Operations
  • Set up and operate press brake equipment.
  • Form and bend metal components to specification.
  • Verify dimensions using measuring tools.
  • Maintain quality and consistency throughout production runs.
Shipping & Material Handling
  • Prepare finished products for shipment, including required paperwork.
  • Package materials to prevent damage during transport.
  • Load and unload trucks using forklifts or other material handling equipment (will certify).
  • Assist with inventory organization and movement of materials throughout the facility.
  • Maintain accurate inventory paying attention to inventory transactions.
General Shop Responsibilities
  • Crosstrain in multiple manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in multiple areas as production demands require.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
  • High school diploma with welding certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in welding, fabrication, or manufacturing required.
  • Experience operating robotic welders and press brakes.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use measuring instruments.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing production needs.
  • Reliable attendance and a positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Strong computer skills including Outlook and Excel.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with people.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Welding and Forklift preferred or willingness to obtain certifications.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate manufacturing equipment.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, welding fumes, and varying temperatures while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE)>
