Qualifications

Summary

The Fabrication Mechanic is responsible for coordinating and performing the layout, setup, and operation of fabrication equipment to manufacture high-quality metal components in accordance with engineering drawings, design specifications, and production schedules. This role ensures all fabrication activities are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently while meeting or exceeding customer and company quality standards. The Fabrication Mechanic interprets blueprints, determines appropriate fabrication methods, and prepares machines and materials required for production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Fabricate, assemble, and modify metal components and parts according to blueprints, work orders, and engineering specifications.
  • Set up, operate, and safely use fabrication and machining equipment to produce high-quality parts within required tolerances.
  • Consistently meet or exceed production deadlines while maintaining company quality and safety standards.
  • Produce parts that meet or exceed quality standards as determined by the Production Supervisor and/or Quality Inspector.
  • Perform set-ups and operate the following machinery safely and efficiently:
    • Shear
    • Riveter
    • Drill Press
    • Strippit Punch Press
    • Roller
    • Disk Sander
    • Portable Power Tools
    • Band Saw, Table Saw, and Miter Saw
    • Hand Brake
    • Manual Brake Press
    • Mill
    • Lathe
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication instructions to ensure accurate production of parts and assemblies.
  • Measure, mark, and inspect materials using precision measuring tools to ensure components meet dimensional and quality specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machine or equipment issues and perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure reliable operation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company policies and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with production staff, supervisors, and quality personnel to resolve fabrication issues and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Assist with material handling, staging of parts, and preparation of components for the next phase of production when needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support production operations
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow blueprints, work orders, and technical instructions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, angles, and volume
  • Ability to apply a commonsense approach and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, supervisors, and other employees of the organization
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication processes including cutting, forming, drilling, punching, and basic machining.
  • Ability to accurately measure and inspect parts using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Strong attention to detail
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related experience/training; OR a minimum of 6 years of related experience in lieu of a diploma/GED
  • Metal fabrication experience preferred
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
Physical/Visual/Mental/ Environmental Factors
  1. Occasionally required to sit, bend, crawl, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, bend or crouch.
  2. Regularly required to use hands and finger dexterity.
  3. Frequently required to stand and/or walk.
  4. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  5. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, dust and carbon in the air, or other airborne particles that may require respiratory protection.
  6. Regularly required to move and lift up to 60 pounds.
  7. Regularly requires close vision, hearing and talking.
  8. Exposure to moderate noise level while in office.
  9. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  10. Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
