Job summary

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Fabrication Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the countertop fabrication department, ensuring stone and solid-surface products are fabricated accurately, efficiently, and according to customer and job specifications. This position provides leadership to the fabrication team, manages production schedules and workflow, ensures quality and safety standards are met, and partners closely with sales, installation, warehouse, and operations teams to ensure projects are completed on time and to company standards.

Essential Functions
Fabrication & Production Management
  • Oversee all daily countertop fabrication operations, including cutting, shaping, polishing, drilling, and finishing of stone and solid-surface materials.

  • Manage production workflow to ensure projects are completed accurately and within established timelines.

  • Review job specifications, templates, measurements, and drawings to ensure fabrication requirements are clearly understood and executed.

  • Ensure all countertops and related products are fabricated according to specifications, quality standards, and customer expectations.

  • Monitor production schedules and adjust priorities as needed to meet installation and delivery deadlines.

  • Identify and resolve fabrication issues, material concerns, measurement discrepancies, and production delays.

  • Ensure materials are properly staged and prepared for installation and delivery.

Team Leadership
  • Lead, train, coach, and develop fabrication employees to ensure high performance and adherence to company standards.

  • Assign daily work and establish priorities based on production schedules and business needs.

  • Monitor employee productivity, quality, attendance, and adherence to established procedures.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide feedback and performance coaching and partner with management on employee-related matters.

  • Ensure team members are properly trained on equipment, tools, fabrication techniques, and safety procedures.

Quality Control
  • Establish and maintain quality standards throughout the fabrication process.

  • Inspect completed work to ensure products meet job specifications and company quality expectations.

  • Identify recurring quality issues and implement corrective actions to prevent future errors.

  • Ensure templates, measurements, hardware placement, cutouts, edges, seams, and finished surfaces are completed accurately.

  • Work closely with installers to address fabrication-related issues and improve the overall installation process.

Materials & Equipment
  • Monitor inventory levels of fabrication materials, supplies, hardware, and consumables.

  • Coordinate with purchasing and warehouse teams to ensure necessary materials are available when needed.

  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and movement of stone and solid-surface materials.

  • Oversee the safe and proper operation and maintenance of fabrication equipment and tools.

  • Identify equipment maintenance or repair needs and coordinate with appropriate personnel to minimize production downtime.

  • Ensure returned and unused materials are properly documented and handled.

Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication environment.

  • Enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

  • Ensure employees properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Conduct or participate in safety training, inspections, and incident investigations as needed.

  • Address unsafe practices or conditions promptly.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Sales, Project Management, Scheduling, Warehouse, and Installation teams to ensure projects move efficiently from order through installation.

  • Communicate production status, potential delays, and project concerns to appropriate team members.

  • Assist with resolving customer or project issues related to fabrication.

  • Ensure fabrication priorities align with installation schedules and customer commitments.

  • Support management with operational initiatives and process improvements.

Performance & Process Improvement
  • Monitor department performance, productivity, turnaround times, quality, and material usage.

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, minimize rework, and increase production capacity.

  • Develop and implement standardized fabrication processes and best practices.

  • Use production data and reporting to identify trends and improve operational performance.

  • Support initiatives designed to improve profitability, quality, employee performance, and customer satisfaction.

Competencies / Skills / Abilities
  • High School Diploma or GED required; additional technical or trade education preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience in countertop fabrication, stone fabrication, construction, manufacturing, or a related industry.

  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.

  • Strong knowledge of stone and/or solid-surface fabrication processes preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret templates, measurements, drawings, and job specifications.

  • Strong understanding of fabrication equipment, tools, and techniques.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to analyze workflow and identify opportunities for operational improvement.

  • Current forklift certification preferred/required, based on location and job responsibilities.

  • Proficiency with computer systems, production software, or ERP systems preferred.
