Job summary

Qualifications

  • Keep track of who is trained to use equipment and restock consumables.
  • Complete training on all lab equipment as part of job training.
  • Report to the Fabrication Lab Technician for weekly tasks.

Job Summary

The student worker will assist the Fabrication Lab Technician in the lab during weekly fabrication lab hours. The student worker will work up to 5–8 hrs per week, in person, starting in August 2026. The student worker will be hired for the duration of the semester, with the potential for a renewed contract at the end of the semester.

Fabrication Lab student workers are responsible for assisting students with various fabrication projects, performing daily shop tasks and enforcing safety procedures and lab policies. Student workers must handle heavy materials and equipment, and therefore must be able to lift 25 lbs of weight. Student workers will have a set weekly schedule that occurs outside of class time.

Responsibilities

The student worker reports to the Fabrication Lab Technician for weekly tasks relating to the lab equipment and assisting students. The Student Worker is expected to maintain a consistent schedule and track and record their hours through TimeClock Plus.

Daily tasks include: Maintaining a safe and clean working environment, ensuring lab users are following lab policies, keeping track of who is trained to use equipment and re-stocking consumable items. Additional tasks, such as special projects for the lab, may be assigned or developed based on the student worker’s strengths and interests. The student worker will complete training on all lab equipment as a part of their job training.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications: Previous enrollment in a 3D studio art course is preferred.

Required Qualifications: Applicant has had previous classroom experience in the Fabrication Lab and is familiar with the space and equipment in it. Applicants should have an interest in woodshop tools and digital fabrication equipment. It is not necessary to know how everything in the shop works before employment, but applicants should be willing to become trained on and comfortable with the various items in the shop. The ideal candidate should thrive in collaborative environments, demonstrate a willingness to learn, and embody a responsible attitude.
