Job summary

Joy Baking Group is seeking a skilled Fabrication Shop Foreman to oversee daily shop operations, lead a team of fabricators, and ensure projects are on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. The role includes safety compliance, coordination with other departments, and hands-on fabrication duties, including welding and cutting.

The Foreman will supervise, train, and motivate staff, monitor materials, and maintain workflow efficiency while upholding high safety and quality controls

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a fabrication shop with leadership or supervisory experience.

  • Able to read and follow drawings; proficient with measurement tools.

Overview

The Fabrication Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the fabrication shop, ensuring that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves managing a team of fabricators while maintaining a safe, efficient, and organized work environment. The Foreman will also be responsible for ensuring adherence to safety regulations and troubleshooting any issues that arise during fabrication processes.


Responsibilities


  • Supervise, train, and provide leadership to a team of fabricators

  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow

  • Monitor inventory of material and supplies needed

  • Estimate of materials, lead times, and other specifications to provide time and material quotes

  • Resolve any issues or disputes that may arise within the shop

  • Implement and maintain quality control standards

  • Coordinate machine maintenance and repair to ensure optimal shop performance

  • Supervise and motivate a team of workers

  • Perform fabrication duties as required

    • Using saws and plasma cutters to cut raw materials into the required shapes and sizes

    • Accurately measuring and marking materials for cutting or machining using tools like calipers, rulers, and templates

    • Put together individual components to form a larger assembly, which may involve bolting, riveting, or screwing parts together

    • Joining metal parts by applying heat and pressure (using MIG, TIG, or Stick welding techniques)




Essential Functions


  • Must be highly motivated, able to follow direction, and perform assigned work duties independently with minimal supervision

  • Position requires a strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and specifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Must be able to speak, listen, and effectively communicate with team members

  • Able to read, understand, and strictly follow written procedures for multiple controlled processes

  • Must be organized and maintain work area

  • Able to operate manual machines

  • Able to problem-solve to troubleshoot machine malfunctions

  • Able to ensure a strong, clean weld without defects

  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to do shop math, perform lay-outs, and read drawings

  • Must have good mechanical aptitude and strong multitasking ability

  • This position involves regular bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting

  • Must be able to work all shifts

  • Must be able to lift up to 75#

  • Must have full use of arms and legs and climb stairs to access all areas of the plant, offices, and roof

  • Adherence to the company attendance policy is required, including expectations of punctuality, and limited unapproved absences


Some travel may be required


Qualifications


  • 5+ years of experience in a fabrication shop environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

  • Fabrication techniques, welding, machining, and materials handling experience required

  • Must be able to read and follow drawings

  • AutoCAD experience is preferred
