Job description

Fabrication Engineer

Johnson Controls is seeking an office-based electrical engineering resource to support the design, fabrication, and implementation of small and large complex jobs. This role works closely with local internal teams and subcontracted resources to align on electrical system design, scope of work, delivery planning, and documentation.

Role Overview

The Fabrication Engineer helps ensure complex jobs are understood early, supported effectively, and delivered with strong technical control. You will partner with Sales Teams, Centers of Excellence (COE), and Field Leadership to identify delivery risks, support fabrication activities, and help improve both customer experience and job financial performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the fabrication of large and complex jobs within the fabrication group.
  • Review and reconcile system design, cost estimates, and scope of work documents for jobs in your area.
  • Participate in internal and external customer meetings to review delivery plans.
  • Track parts inventories for Specialty Products production, including custom parts with long lead times, and order parts when quantities are low.
  • Transfer internal parts and assemblies as needed to support project flow.
  • Perform hands-on fabrication of electrical boxes, including wiring configuration, wire terminations, and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Communicate proactively with Sales Teams and COE regarding new opportunities early in the pursuit and proposal process.
  • Monitor customer experience and Est. vs. Act. GM% trends within assigned markets.
  • Track productive time by activity category to support capacity and financial performance models.
  • Provide monthly project updates in the forecast tool and ensure accurate billing-cycle documentation for each project.

How You Will Do It
  • Own outcomes with accountability, safety, and integrity by maintaining accurate documentation, following through on commitments, and supporting compliant execution from planning through billing.
  • Stay close to the work by reviewing designs, scope, and cost details early, then coordinating with Sales, COE, local resources, and customers to remove obstacles before they affect delivery.
  • Improve every day by watching customer experience and margin trends, identifying delivery risks early, and using clear problem-solving to strengthen performance on future jobs.
  • Win as one team by working collaboratively across internal functions and subcontracted resources, sharing information openly, and supporting a smooth handoff from pursuit to execution.
  • Use strong organization and attention to detail to keep parts, documentation, forecasts, and project updates accurate and current.

Qualifications
  • Electrical experience with design capability and computer networking skills.
  • Knowledge of network architectures.
  • Relevant experience in electrical systems integration.
  • Ability to follow wiring diagrams and blueprints.
  • Experience maintaining accurate documentation of scope of work and performance.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently and manage details carefully.
  • Ability to balance options and communicate them clearly with stakeholders.
  • Hands‑on ability to support electrical fabrication work, including wiring configuration, terminations, and assembly tasks.

Nice to Have
  • Mechanical design skills and experience.
  • Working knowledge of Compass, TIP, Oracle, or other Johnson Controls platforms.
  • Knowledge of security architectures.
  • Experience or proficiency in AutoCAD.
