Job summary

Southern States LLC in Virginia is seeking a skilled machine operator to coordinate activities across beamline, Peddinghaus, and Geka press, optimizing tool setups and production sequences to manufacture parts. You will read blueprints, determine tooling needs, develop part programs, and collaborate with engineering and production control to improve methods, reduce cycle times, and maintain quality.

This on-site role requires a high school diploma, basic math skills, and the ability to move

Qualifications

  • Blueprints, schedules, and technical data interpretation for tooling and setup.
  • Basic math for tooling, measurements, and tolerances.
  • Ability to read and follow production and quality procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprints and schedules to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and production sequences.
  • Develops new part programs using machine tool programming software or machine tool control.
  • Optimizes existing programs and setups to reduce cycle times.
  • Suggests improvements to production methods, equipment performance and quality.
  • Collaborates with engineering VIP program to ensure drawings are correct and reduce defects.
  • Coordinates with Production Control to correct misrouted work orders.
  • Prepares and pre-sets tools for fabrication operations to meet quality standards.
  • Moves work between cells to cover machine downtime and meet goals.
  • Inspects output from three work centers to ensure parts are to print before galvanizing.
  • Prints daily schedules and assigns clear goals for each work center.
  • Orders shop supplies and maintains monthly budget for daily centers.
  • Assists maintenance to resolve machine downtime and conducts PM checks.
  • Coordinates training for operators to maintain a flexible workforce.

Job Summary

Coordinates activities of workers engaged in operating various machines (Beamline, Peddinghaus, Geka press), optimizes setups to manufacture parts or products by performing the following duties:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, work center schedules, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, production methods and sequences
  • Develops new part programs utilizing machine tool programming software or utilizing the machine tool control
  • Optimizes existing part programs and setups to reduce cycle times
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
  • Works with engineering through the VIP program to insure drawings are correct and suggest changes that reduce quality defects and cycle times
  • Works with Production Control and Manufacturing Engineering group to make the necessary changes to any work orders that are routed incorrectly
  • Prepares and pre-sets all tools needed for fabricating operations for adherence to quality standards
  • Able to move work from one cell to another if and when one machine may go down to insure production goals are met
  • Inspects all work from three different work centers to insure parts are to print before they are sent out to galvanizer to prevent rework
  • Prints out work center daily schedules and assigns clear daily goal to insure each work center is on track to meet assigned production goals
  • Order the simple shop supplies that are needed to run the daily work centers while maintaining their monthly budget
  • Assists and coordinates maintenance activities to resolve machine tool downtime
  • Conducts and monitors machine preventative maintenance checks

Minimum Qualification
Education and/or Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add andsubtractwhole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to use simple mathematical devices, such as, calculators, scales,measuring tapes, etc
